Whether it’s due to unforeseen circumstances or it was simply the
cheapest flight available, we’ve all had to deal with long hours stuck
in an airport. Welcome to MojoTravels and today we're counting down
our picks for the Top 5 Ways to Kill Time on a Long Layover.

For this list, we’re looking at the best ways to spend your time while
waiting for your next flight to leave.

#5: Treat Yourself

While most people view a long layover as an ordeal to get through,
it’s all a matter of how you frame it. Many modern airports now have
spas and massage centers so you can be pampered while you wait for
your flight to be called. You may not typically indulge in massages at
home, but you’re probably pretty wound up from the stresses of
travelling. So, now’s a better time than any to treat yourself. While
you’re at it, grab a fancy cocktail at the airport bar and call it a
day.

#4: Work Out
We all know how hard it is to fit regular exercise into our busy
schedules, but being stuck in an airport with nothing to do for
several hours is certainly no excuse to skip a workout. If you want to
boost your energy levels, get your endorphins flying, and reduce
stress while you wait, do some stretching or even a bit of cardio.
These days, lots of airports even have gyms in or around them,
specifically for travelers who don’t want to miss their daily workout.

#3: Netflix
When else can you binge watch your favorite shows totally guilt free?
Most airports now have free Wi-Fi, so there’s no better opportunity to
let yourself veg out and catch up with your favourite shows or start
watching that new show everyone’s been talking about. Rather than
counting down the minutes until your flight’s departure, just sit back
and consume as many episodes as you can. Whatever you choose, there’s
no need to feel bad, because time spent in an airport doesn’t really
count anyway.

#2: Explore the Airport
Of course, not all airports are created equally. Typically, the bigger
the airport, the more there will be for you to explore. Walk around,
do some window shopping, people-watch, and enjoy the luxurious lack of
obligation. Airplane food may be awful, but airport food doesn’t have
to be so bad. It has become a trend for airports to up their game when
it comes to dining options, so you may be able to try out local
delicacies or even eateries run by renowned top chefs.

#1: See the City
If you’ve got a long enough layover, there’s no better idea than to
get out of the airport and play tourist for the day. Take the time to
check out a great museum, eat at a popular local restaurant, or just
wander the streets soaking it all in. Cities like Boston, San Diego,
London, Honolulu, and Belfast all have airports close to their city
centers. Be aware however that you’ll have to go through security
again on your way back in. So make sure you leave enough time to
ensure you’ll catch your flight!
