Headphones. They come in all shapes and sizes. They’re our sanctuary away from the noisy world around us. We love our music, our movies, and our games, and we want private listening at home and on the go. Headphones are a fashion statement, a fitness companion, and a godsend on an airplane. But which pair is for you? Hey everyone, Welcome to Gear Up, the WatchMojo series that looks at the latest in gadgets, gear and games. I’m Marc Saltzman, and in this video, we’ll look at some hot headphones —wired and wireless, over-ear, on-ear and in-ear – covering a range of prices and for a variety different scenarios. A quick note: we won’t cover gaming headphones here as that’s a different animal altogether and we’ll soon have a Top 10 gaming accessories round-up for ya. OK, not listed in any particular order…
#1: Sennheiser Momentum 2.0
One of the best names in personal audio, Sennheiser has an awesome pair of over-ear Bluetooth headphones called the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 for under $250. Called the most “versatile” headphones by CNET.com, this pair has NFC or near-field communication for one-tap pairing with a compatible smartphone or other music player, while its Noise Gard hybrid active noise cancellation blocks ambient noise using 4 microphones for the ultimate in isolation and clear phone quality if a call comes in. Leave the charger at home as the Momentum 2.0 offers 22 hours of battery life.
#2: Sony MDR-1000X
Next up, while they cost more, the Sony MDR-1000X over-the-ear wireless headphones are one of the best we’ve tried over the past year. Whether you’re a frequent flier or music lover (or both), Sony’s $400 1000X headphones are super soft, comfortable and offer exceptional sound with built-in noise-cancellation technology. Also powered by Bluetooth and NFC, you can first press a button for the headphones to “listen” to the environment you’re in, to best block out ambient noise based on where you are. With the Quick Attention feature, cup your hand over the right earphone if you want to temporarily stop the noise-cancellation to talk to someone. Touch sensors on the earcup lets you control your tunes and calls with simple swipes and taps.
#3: Bose QuietComfort 35
And before we get to smaller headphones, when you’re talking noise-cancellation you can’t forget Bose. The Bose QuietComfort 35 are extraordinary sounding noise-cancelling headphones that offers Bluetooth streaming and great comfort, as the name suggests. Along with the Sony model, these fold-up over-ear headphones work well for phone calls, too, and includes a cable for wired listening in case the battery dies – but it’ll take about 20 hours for that to happen. A companion app for iOS and Android helps give you more control over your headphones. If cash is tight but you still want premium sound, also consider Monster’s Clarity H2 On-Ear Bluetooth Headphones for $149, Audio-Technica’s ATH-M50x for $149 and House of Marley’s Liberate XLBT Bluetooth Headphones for $169. While not cheap at $170, the Klipsch Reference X6i earbuds are extremely thin and remarkably comfortable – thanks to its thin design that sits naturally inside the ear canal for hours of use -- and most importantly, they offer amazing-sound with well-balanced lows, mids and highs. Klipsch’s custom, single full-range and balanced armature delivers cleaner, more natural sounding vocals and defined upper frequencies. These Reference X Series earbuds feature a brand new heavy gauge cable that’s more reliable and tangle-resistant.

Also expensive at $159, especially as you might lose one, Apple’s wireless AirPods offer good sound, decent battery life for in-ear headphones at 5 hours and when you pull AirPods out of its charging case, they instantly turn on and connect to your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad or Mac. How these white AirPods look isn’t for everyone and you need to use Siri as there’s no in-line remote – double-tap to adjust volume, change songs, make a call, or get directions – but Apple’s first new product in a while is winning over skeptics.

Other worthy in-ear buds include the Monster iSport Super Slim Wireless for $149, the Jaybird X2s Bluetooth for $139, and Shure SE215s for $99.
