First up…the NES Classic Edition retro console for $59 bucks. They’re hard to find but Nintendo’s NES Classic Edition lets you relive some of the best console games of the ‘80s -- on your big-screen TV. This mini version of the iconic Nintendo Entertainment System houses 30 pre-installed 8-bit classics of yesteryear, such as Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, PAC-MAN, Metroid, Mega Man, and Final Fantasy, to name a few. The teeny console also ships with a full-size NES Classic Controller, plus you can add a second for 2-player fun, and it also includes an HDMI cable to plug into a television.

#2: 4K Chromecast Ultra

You already know about Google’s Chromecast – that small device you plug into your TV’s HDMI port, and lets you wirelessly mirror what’s on your compatible smartphone, tablet or laptop on the TV. But as the name suggests, 4K Chromecast Ultra supports up to 4K Ultra HD picture quality – for 4 times the resolution of HD on a compatible television – but it also supports HDR, or high-dynamic range for better contrast, brightness and colour. The $90 dollar 4K Chromecast Ultra includes a faster processor for smooth streaming, and optional built-in Ethernet adaptor in case you’d rather go wired instead of wireless. The Backdrop feature showcases content like your photos, social media, news headlines and more.

#3: the Moto Z Play Smartphone

Available for $0 on 2-year plan with multiple carriers or $449 outright, Moto Z Play is a super slender 5 ½-inch Android phone with a 50-hour battery – plus it works with “Moto Mods” which magnetically attach to the back of the smartphone. There are many Moto mods including a JBL stereo speaker with kickstand, extra battery that adds an additional 20 hours, high-end camera and my favorite, the Moto Insta-Share Projector that beams an image up to 70 inches onto a wall or ceiling near you.

#4: TP-Link Touch P5

Next up, if you’re buying for a gadget geek who has 10, 20 or even 30 devices on their Wi-Fi network, they can likely benefit from a new router to handle all that traffic. TP-Link’s Touch P5 is a touchscreen-enabled Wi-Fi Gigabit Router with AC-1900 speeds and three dual-band antenna for fast and reliable performance, for all your home’s wireless devices, like computers, tablets, smartphones, printers, video game consoles, smart TVs, smart thermostats, and so on. Along with the one-minute setup, the touchscreen also lets you enable parental controls, if you like, and works with a free app, too. Available for $169, the Touch P5 can also be used as a Wi-Fi repeater.

#5: Streetwise Ultimate Jumpstarter Power Bank

Number 5 gift idea for that hard-to-buy-for gadget geek….A portable back-up battery is a must-have for any traveler as they can juice up your devices, whenever and wherever, and one model is even handier for road trippers. Not only can the Streetwise Ultimate Jumpstarter Power Bank from ThinkGeek boost your smartphone, tablet or laptop, but this compact 14,000-milliamp (mAh) battery can also jumpstart your vehicle up to 20 times. Avoiding the need to call emergency roadside assistance or flag down someone for help on the highway, this smart $89 dollar travel companion also includes an emergency flashlight, strobe light and SOS mode.

#6: Seagate's Personal Cloud

Next up, rather than entrust a cloud company with your data and to store a lot of files, pay a monthly fee for the privilege, Seagate’s Personal Cloud lets you store, organize and access all your files – be it documents, videos, photos and music – anywhere in the world and on virtually any Internet-connected device. Starting at $139 for 3 terabytes of storage but goes all the way up to 8-terabytes, you can download, stream and even share your own content via a smartphone, tablet, laptop or even a Smart TV. This is your own personal cloud that doesn’t require a monthly subscription.

#7: Lenovo Yoga Book

Number 7, one of the coolest device of the year: the Lenovo Yoga Book. Have you seen this thing? It’s the world’s thinnest 2-in-1 that’s just millimeters thin. So you can use it in laptop mode and type on the glowing “Halo” touch keyboard with haptic feedback so it vibrates under your fingertips but you can bend back the 10.1-inch screen 360 degrees as it’s on a durable hinge and then use it with your fingertips like a touchscreen tablet. Also included is a digital stylus that lets you draw, sketch or write on the lower half of the clamshell device and you’ll see the digital inking on the screen, and there are real ink tips included, too, and a magnetic notepad, to draw on real paper if you prefer. It’s available as an Android device for $499 or Windows for $599.

#8: Dream Arcades

Number 8, for those with a seriously healthy budget, Dreamarcades sells stand-up coin-operated cabinets and sit-down “cocktail table”-style arcade machines that can play hundreds of arcade classics from the golden era of gaming. You can enjoy the blips and bleeps of Ms. Pac-man, Asteroids, Centipede, Donkey Kong, Frogger and Pole Position all over again – many of which are the real deal and others being authentic-looking clones – plus there’s laser disc games like Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. You can also add your own games. The crème de la crème is the Dreamcade Vision 40 – for just over $3 grand -- and featuring more than 200 games, a huge 40-inch monitor, 4-player control panel, and a built-in MP3 music jukebox.

#9: Bluetooth Beanie

Our second-last gift for the geek on your gift list…the Bluetooth Beanie for $59 bucks. Dress warm for the winter and still be able to take calls and hear your tunes. As the name suggests, the Bluetooth Beanie – or “toque” for our Canadian viewers -- is a kitted wireless cap with built-in headphones that you wirelessly stream music, audio books, podcasts or calls from your nearby smartphone. Available in multiple colors, styles and sizes, this Bluetooth Beanie offers 6 to 9 hours of play time, depending if you’re talking or rocking, and even supports Siri for iPhone users by double-tapping the Plus button twice on the headset.

#10: Hisense H7 4K HDR LED Smart TV

And finally, number 10, get a lot of bang for the buck with the Hisense H7 -- a 4K HDR LED Smart TV for only $379 for the 43-inch version. Offering four times the resolution of 1080p HD, this television supports High Dynamic Range for higher contrast levels and better brightness, and its integrated Wi-Fi and Smart TV lets you access preloaded apps with dedicated buttons on the remote for Netflix, YouTube and others, plus you can download more. Along with multiple HDMI ports and a USB slot for media, the H7 boasts clear and powerful audio powered by dbx-tv. Sizes go up to 65 inches. Hey, thanks for watching Gear Up; I'm Marc Saltzman.
