WatchMojo's Actor of the Year: 2014

WatchMojo's Actor of the Year: 2014
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
As the year draws to a close, it's up to us to decide who had the most Mojo. In honor of year's end, http://www.WatchMojo.com is making a choice for Actor of the Year: 2014. For this video, we're going to discuss a few of the actors we felt had the highest profiles this year. But there can be only one, so we're going to choose who we think had the BIGGEST year and who was 2014's Movie Man with Mojo.

This year's nominees for Movie Men with Mojo are: Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt and Benedict Cumberbatch.

This year’s nominees for Men with Mojo are: Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Channing Tatum

Sure, we didn’t see him strip down this year, but there’s no denying Channing Tatum “stepped up” in 2014. Between his voice roles in “The LEGO Movie” and “The Book of Life,” or his live-action efforts in “22 Jump Street” and “Foxcatcher,” he’s been one busy guy. Comedy, drama, doesn’t matter: Tatum’s got the golden touch.

Ben Affleck

If you thought Ben Affleck had peaked in the ‘90s with “Good Will Hunting,” or a couple of years ago with “Argo,” think again. Aside from headlines about his gambling and political diatribes, 2014 saw the actor take the lead in “Gone Girl,” one of the year’s most discussed films. And not just cause you get to see little Benny. But, you probably remember 2014 most fondly as the year the hype train really started surrounding Ben Affleck’s casting as the Dark Knight in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Love him or hate him, you’re going to watch that film.

Benedict Cumberbatch

We now trade the cape and cowl for a deerstalker cap. Benedict Cumberbatch has been TV’s Sherlock Holmes since 2010, but it was in 2014 that the world truly realized what a dashing man he is. Oh, did we say the world? We meant the Emmys. And that’s without even mentioning movies like “Penguins of Madagascar,” “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” and his much-touted performance in “The Imitation Game.” Labeled “this generation’s Sir Laurence Olivier” by the Sunday Times and one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People in the World, the newly engaged actor is sure to be keeping his Cumberbitches happy into 2015.

Runner-Up: Matthew McConaughey

We’re now into the big leagues and onto our runner-up: Matthew McConaughey. McConaughey has certainly come a long way from the pot-smoking, naked bongo playing, rom-com starring guy we knew a few years ago. Nabbing an Oscar in 2014 for his work in the previous year’s “Dallas Buyers Club,” McConaughey opted for a few small screen roles that year. From his acclaimed performance on “True Detective,” to his…alright, we’ll call them ‘bizarre’ Lincoln TV ads, the McConaissance was in full effect in 2014. It all culminated with “Interstellar,” a sci-fi saga that proved to audiences McConaughey was not ready to sit back and relax. So who could possibly beat such a year?

And the winner is… Chris Pratt

Top 10 Chris Pratt Moments

You’ve seen him as the goofy guy, the supporting actor, and – no disrespect – the cute but awkward and kinda chubby Andy Dwyer. But 2014 was the year Chris Pratt became a leading man without a doubt. Not only showing off his nothing-short-of-miraculous physical transformation into an undisputed celebrity hot guy, Pratt also made his Hollywood presence known. It truly seems like everything IS awesome when it comes to being Chris Pratt, especially in 2014: he starred in not one but TWO of the year’s most successful and highest grossing flicks. The only guy who could steal scenes from a wisecracking raccoon and a monosyllabic tree, Pratt was also cast in 2015’s “Jurassic World,” meaning we can look forward to another year of Pratt-fever. But even more important than that, he was just EVERYWHERE in 2014 – for all the right reasons – and that, coupled with the fact that he just seems like the type of dude you’d love to chill with, Chris Pratt is our 2014 Man with Mojo. Do you agree with our choices? Which actor do you think was everywhere in 2014? For more star-studded top 10s published every day, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.
