VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
As the year draws to a close, it's up to us to decide who had the most Mojo. In honor of year's end, http://www.WatchMojo.com is making a choice for Female Musician of the Year: 2014. For this video, we're going to discuss a few of the musicians we felt had the highest profiles this year. But there can be only one, so we're going to choose who we think had the BIGGEST year and who was 2014's Music Woman with Mojo.

This year's nominees for Music Women with Mojo are: Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Lorde and Beyoncé.

Ariana Grande

She may’ve started in a supporting role, but in 2014 Ariana Grande is the “Victorious” one. Her second album, My Everything, debuted at number-one on Billboard – making her the first female to have two albums in a row start at the top since Susan Boyle in 2010. Recognized by many as the year’s breakout artist, Grande teamed up with some of 2014’s other leading ladies on songs like “Problem” and “Bang Bang” – as well as her boyfriend Big Sean – to finally “break free” of her good-girl image.

Katy Perry

In 2014, Katy Perry earned her ninth number-one song, scored a Guinness World Record as the first person on Twitter to reach 50M followers, and was named Top Certified Digital Artist Ever by the Recording Industry Association of America. Need more? She also founded her own record label, attained the second-highest earning song on Spotify AND was chosen for 2015’s Super Bowl halftime show. Every day must be like her “birthday.”

Iggy Azalea

Things you should know about Iggy Azalea: she’s Australian, her REAL first name is Amethyst, and she loves to flaunt her booty. Iggy released both her debut studio album, as well as a repackaged version of the same record in 2014 – cause nobody can get enough. Solidifying 2014 as the year of the solo female, the Aussie worked with fellow fems like J-Lo and Ariana Grande. Oh yeah, and she was cast in the seventh “Fast and Furious” movie, so 2015 is sure to be pretty “fancy” too.

Lorde

New Zealand native Lorde started 2014 by picking up two Grammys. And the train didn’t stop: with her unique sound, she landed headlining spots at festivals around the world. Her massive hit “Royals” helped her become the youngest solo artist to nab a U.S. number-one since Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” in 1988. Lorde’s single “Yellow Flicker Beat” appeared on the soundtrack to “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1,” just in case you thought she might be a one-hit wonder. Oh, and she turned 18 in November.

Runner-Up: Beyoncé

We’re now into the big leagues and onto our runner-up: Beyoncé. Pretty much any year post-2000 was Beyoncé’s year. But in 2014, she became the highest-paid black musician ever. Let that one sink in. Her On the Run tour with hubby Jay-Z probably helped, as did her fashion line with TopShop. One of the most influential people in the music industry – bar none – Mrs. Carter showed off all her personas in 2014: she was sexy in “Partition,” serious in “Pretty Hurts,” flawless in “Flawless” and goofy in “7/11.” She even reteamed with Destiny’s Child for “Say Yes.” Needless to say, everybody loves Beyoncé. So who could possibly beat such a year?

And the winner is… Taylor Swift

Our pick is the girl who ditched country for pop, had the highest first-week record sales since 2002’s The Eminem Show – and NOBODY buys records anymore, who became the only woman ever to have three albums sell over a million copies in one week AND who acted in “The Giver.” All that and more has earned Taylor Swift Billboard’s Woman of the Year honor, becoming the first female to win twice. T-Swift is so huge; she’s quite possibly the only artist big enough to yank her music from Spotify without negatively affecting her career. Using her dating highs-and-lows to win fans and sell records, Taylor Swift just shook it off – and because of that she’s our Music Woman with Mojo. Do you agree with our choices? Which musician do you think was everywhere in 2014? For more star-studded top 10s published every day, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.
