In “What a Girl Wants”, Jonathan Pryce plays Alastair Payne, the advisor to the prominent Dashwood family and one of the story’s antagonists. Pryce has been busy since shooting this movie, and if you can’t put your finger on where you recognize him from, it may have been in his role as the High Sparrow on HBO’s “Game of Thrones”. He played a religious figure again in the Netflix film “The Two Popes” where he had a starring role. Despite being in his 70s, it doesn’t look like this actor is slowing down any time soon.

Daphne’s father is engaged to be married to Alistair’s daughter Glynnis, played by Anna Chancellor, who is clearly a terrible match for him despite her political connections. Chancellor has had a long career in television and has acted in a number of series and TV movies since appearing in “What a Girl Wants”. Her most well known role came about soon afterwards when she played Galactic Vice-President Questular Rontok in “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy” in 2005. One of her more recent projects is the British legal series “The Split,” which began airing in 2018 and in which she plays Melanie Aickman.

She also had a role in 2017’s “Paddington 2” where she played the fortune teller Madame Kozlova. In the British medical dramedy “Doc Martin,” she has been playing retired forensic psychiatrist and Martin’s aunt Ruth Ellingham since series five.

Christina Cole plays Daphne’s future evil step-sister Clarissa Payne in “What a Girl Wants” and absolutely nails her role as a snobby mean girl. She took the role while finishing up acting school, and her star has only continued to rise since. She has acted in a number of movies including “Jupiter Ascending”, “Casino Royale” and “Mutual Friends” and has taken plenty of parts on television as well. One of her more recent projects was playing Stevie alongside Matthew Perry in the play that he wrote, “The End of Longing”.

Preston has been married to John Travolta since 1991 and the couple had three children together, the oldest of whom sadly died in 2009.
