Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we’re answering one of the most important questions in gaming - “Which VR Headset Has the Best Games?” There are a ton of different VR headsets out there, every one of them vying for your attention, and sometimes, it can get overwhelming. Fret not, noble player - we here at MojoPlays have narrowed down the selection to our top three favorite headsets and which games help them shine!

If you’ve invested a hearty amount of money into your computer, you may be inclined to go out and buy our number three pick - the Valve Index. We wouldn’t blame you for dropping the thousand dollars it costs, especially if you’re looking for the same impressive horsepower it carries. With a refresh rate of 120 Hz, games look magnificent. So, what can you play on this thing? Well, to be quite honest, not a lot. While it is one of the more technically competent headsets on the market, the Valve Index holds a very limited library with most games available on other platforms. However, if you’re still banking on this device, we do have a few suggestions for you. Such games that will take advantage of the Index’s high refresh rate are “Beat Saber” (the fast-paced rhythm game that proves to be one hell of a workout), “Superhot VR” (a shooter where you pull cool stunts in slow-motion before seeing them in real-time), “Moss” (a fantasy adventure about an adorable little mouse), and “No Man’s Sky” (Hello Games’ trainwreck of empty promises turned into a vibrant and thriving galaxy of adventure and base building). Of course, we can’t forget about a couple notable exclusives in Valve’s library - “Aperture Hand Lab”, where players can test the personality cores from the “Portal” games, and “Half-Life: Alyx”, the newest entry in the “Half-Life” franchise.

Our second pick was a little tough to settle on, but we ended up going with the PlayStation VR headset. This system has had the honor of being the most affordable headset on the market with bundles costing between $250 and $350 USD. Unfortunately, a couple of hindrances kept it from earning the gold medal. For starters, it requires a PlayStation camera in order to function, and most games demand you use the Move controllers instead of the DualShock 4. So, it can get pricey if you buy the wrong bundle. However, it excels in wielding a sizable index with some great exclusives! “Astro Bot: Rescue Mission” is an adorable platformer that features an imaginative world inhabited by robots. But if you’re wanting a little more action, you might want to check out “Blood & Truth”, which received rave reviews at launch for its frenetic gameplay and thrilling story. Or maybe you’re looking for a scare and want to grab “Until Dawn: Rush of Blood”, which straps you into a rollercoaster of sheer terror! Although, you may have a few other titles already that feature special VR modes like “Resident Evil 7” or “WipeOut Omega Collection”. Either way, the PSVR is the best choice for those of you on a budget. You could probably find some enjoyable experiences on sale that’ll keep you busy until “Iron Man VR’s” inevitable release.

And this all leads us to our number one pick. As much as we enjoy the Valve Index and the PlayStation VR, we had to give our top spot to the immersive, technical marvel that is the Oculus Rift S. If you want to get lost in your games and wander, this is the headset to nab! Sure, there is a trade-off between the lack of external sensors and requirement of additional cables, but the Rift S displays a higher resolution that its competitors simply cannot match. Now, the big ticket item - as always - is the selection of games within your grasp. Aside from their respective exclusives, you’ll find a buffet of games that are also offered on other platforms. So, you won’t have to worry about missing out on titles like “Groundhog Day: Like Father, Like Son”, the “Ghostbusters VR” titles, the thrilling spy adventure “I Expect You to Die”, or the incredibly hilarious “Rick & Morty: Virtual Rick-ality”. However, Oculus offers their own line of exclusives, Oculus Originals, as they’re called, and it’s actually a strong lineup! Enter the world of “Marvel Powers United” with a friend and gain the abilities of your favorite Marvel superheroes like Star Lord, Spider-Man, and Deadpool. Wanting to relive a classic rhythm game from back when plastic guitars were cool? Now, you can experience “Rock Band” in a new light thanks to “Rock Band VR”, which puts you center stage with your own band. Or perhaps you’re the type of player who wants to live the life of a rebel, bringing down armies of robots like a total badass! “Robo Recall” provides that feeling with its arcade-like gameplay and exhilarating visuals. However, there is ONE game that every Oculus owner should experience - “Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series”. Developed by ILMxLAB with assistance from LucasFilm and Oculus Studios, “Vader Immortal” boasts stunning visuals, detailed environments, excellent writing, and a “Star Wars” experience unlike any other! If there’s any game that can perfectly kickstart your time with the Oculus Rift S, it’s this one.

VR may still be a niche market today, but development has accelerated in making this form of gaming more accessible to the public. And we’ve seen a ton of great titles that perfectly show the potential that VR gaming has. We’re not just saying that on a technical standpoint, but also in consideration of health and well-being. There are plenty of stories you can read from people who have bettered their lives thanks to VR. What we’re trying to say here is that now is such a great time to get into the hobby, especially now that more developers are entering the fray and creating a ton of unique games to experience.
