iPhone 8 To be Unveiled SEPTEMBER 12! (Probably…)

OMFG iCAN’TWAIT

The upcoming iPhone 8 is the most anticipated cellphone reveal since, well, the iPhone 7.

And it’s hard to wait.

But don’t fret. News has leaked:

The Phone That 8 The Internet

New York Magazine:

If you’ve been cradling your old iPhone, with its cracked screen and crummy battery life, and whispering just a little longer, please hold on just a little longer till I can replace you, your time has finally come. According to sources close to the matter, Apple is holding a product-launch event on September 12, The Wall Street Journal reports. Three new iPhones are expected to be released on that date, the Journal also reports, as well as a new smartwatch.

Two of the three phones are expected to be updated versions of Apple’s existing iPhone 7. The third, however, is likely to be the much-rumored iPhone 8. This device will reportedly cost just shy of $1,000 and will likely have new features including wireless charging and facial recognition. Other design rumors include a larger screen, no home button, and significantly higher resolution. Color choices will, if KGI Securities analyst — and historically good Apple predictor — Ming-Chi Kuo is to be believed, be limited to silver, gold, and black.

Oh, and:

Elite Daily:

At this point, any rumor about the upcoming iPhone 8 has us sitting at the edge of our seats. Even though Apple is yet to confirm any details about the highly anticipated phone, there have been enough leaks that suggest exactly what the phone is going to look like and what it’s going to do. However, one question is still taunting us: Will iPhone 8 have an OLED screen? We’ve been through months and months of circulating rumors saying it will have a screen made of OLED panels, which will supposedly give the phone brighter displays and a better battery life. I don’t know about you, but a better battery life sounds pretty amazing right about now. Thankfully, the rumors about an OLED screen might’ve just been confirmed, because a leaked picture of the rumored phone screens for the iPhone 8 have hit the web:

Not exactly Steve Jobs-like in this form, but still.

Of course, not everything is going to be sunshine and peppermints.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

CNET:

Rumors that the new high-end 2017 iPhone would cost upwards of $1,000 have persisted for so long that I can’t even remember where or when they first started. But with the recent New York Times report from Brian X. Chen that the Apple lineup will include “a premium model priced at around $999,” that price tag has been elevated from “rumor” to “as reported by the paper of record.”

Chen cites his sources as “people briefed on the product, who asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to speak publicly.” And while an Apple spokesperson declined to comment to CNET on the Times story, everything about it makes sense. In fact, the only real question is whether $999 is the starting price, or maybe the middle model. (I hope Apple will at least have mercy and start the storage capacity on the baseline model at 64GB instead of just 32GB.)

So: The $1,000 iPhone price point, give or take a dollar, appears to finally be here.

Ah, well. You can’t have everything.
