I’m Reeeeady…to Fight!
Prepare to have your childhood implode.
Recently, an animator by the name of Narmak released a video on Youtube. It contained what appeared to be the opening to the popular cartoon Spongebob SquarePants, except with one little change.
The entire thing has been re-imagined as an anime, complete with original animation that contains every cliche under the sun as well as oddly fitting Japanese background music.
Yes, you read that right.
An article by Gizmodo put it best:
“SpongeBob SquarePants’s original theme song and opening sequence are a big part of the show’s long-lasting success. They’re catchy, fun, and explain the basic premise of the show every episode while somehow managing not to become too annoying. The only thing that could make them better? An anime makeover.
Recently, US-based animator Narmak uploaded a video to their YouTube account meant to answer a simple question: what would a reimagined SpongeBob SquarePants credit sequence look like if it were designed by an anime-obsessed westerner. The answer? Pretty damned good, actually. The video plays on a number of visual anime cliches like having characters dramatically stare off-screen moments before a moving into a fluid action scene. The video’s chock full of wordless, overwrought melodrama, but it totally works given how absurd SpongeBob SquarePants has always been.”
They aren’t kidding, we’ve got everything from Spongebob running dramatically into the sunset, plenty of extensive close ups, everyone looking ten times more muscular and a hundred times more sombre, not to mention the crazy fight scenes.
Yep, there are even fight scenes in this two minute video, including ones where Squidward (brainwashed to obey Plankton) kicks the crap out of Sandy and even decapitates Patrick with just one tentacle.
…We’re not sure if Narmak ever intended for this to become an ongoing project, but we speak for the rest of the internet when we say this NEEDS to become a series!
