Kino’s Journey Gets New Anime Adaptation

It’s a Beautiful World

Back in 2003, the first anime adaptation of Keiichi Sigsawa’s light novel series Kino no Tabi was released. It told a captivating story about the philosophy of the human psyche through the eyes of our lead character Kino; a young woman who’s quick on the draw, never stays in one place for too long, and whose sole companion is a talking motorcycle named Hermes.

Over the course of the anime,  Kino and Hermes traverse across their strange new world, encountering a whole host of unique cultures and customs along the way. With the principle of only a few days being needed to truly learn everything there is to know about an environment, the series uses this ideology to expose fans to the various facets of humanity’s folly.

Sound depressing? Well it kind of was, but it was also strangely uplifting. With Kino serving as a catalyst, the anime told some rather beautiful stories that didn’t shy away from the darker urges that mankind is known for.

And now its back.
