Bring On The Bloodbath!
Does anyone remember Gantz? The series that dared to rise above the rest, to speak the unspoken truths that no other show was willing to say!
“Just how much violence, sex and taboo subjects can an anime away with?”
Yeah, it was a bloody one, and for that reason it has maintained a fierce following of fans but also many who look see it as blatant exploitation and shock horror.
But maybe the two groups can find common ground. As it turns out creator Hiroya Oku’s latest masterwork Inuyashiki is being turned into an anime, and from the sounds of it we are in for an unconventional and brutal viewing experience.
According to an article on Otaku USA Magazine –
Based on the dark sci-fi manga by Gantz author Hiroya Oku, the Inuyashiki anime is gearing up for an October debut. Ahead of that we have a new promo for the adaptation, which follows a middle-aged man who accidentally finds himself turning into a cyborg superhero.
Fumiyo Kohinata plays unlikely hero Ichiro Inuyashiki and Nijiro Murakami plays teenage psychopath Hiro Shishigami, with MAN WITH A MISSION on opening theme âMy Hero.â
Kodansha Comics releases Inuyashiki in print, while Crunchyroll has it digitally. Hereâs their synopsis:
“Ichiro Inuyashiki is down on his luck. While only 58 years old, his geriatric looks often have him written off as a pathetic old man by the world around him and heâs constantly ignored and disrespected by his family despite all that heâs done to support them. On top of everything else, his doctor has revealed that he has cancer and it appears that he has little time left in this world. But just when it seems things couldnât get any worse, a blinding light in the night sky strikes the earth where Ichiro stands. He later wakes up to find himself unscathed, but he soon starts to notice that thereâs somethingâ¦different about himself.”
Hopeful or harrowing? We’ll have to wait and see.
