Can She One Up Gurren Lagann?
It’s now common knowledge that Studio Trigger are in the process of working on three new projects that are to be released in the near future. Details are of course on the sketchy side, but we do have a basic idea of each premise.
Promare appears to be the love child of Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill. Gridman is an adaptation of a beloved live-action series from the 90s, and from what we now know DARLING in the FRANXX appears to be giving us a more elegant look at the mecha genre.
According to an article on Crunchyroll –
One of the series that Trigger revealed at Anime Expo was A-1 Pictures sci-fi collaboration Darling in the FranXX. The iDOLM@STER’s Atsushi Nishigori directs and teams up with Steins;Gate’s Naotaka Hayashi on the writing. This week’s Gurren Lagann re-run episode aired a new promo, focusing on its ‘iron-maiden’ mech named FRANXX.
Included were several tweets from both the anime’s official Twitter page as well as various behind the scenes sneak peaks courtesy of the designers.
The following were posted by one Shigeto Koyama, the man who worked on classic Studio Trigger titles but also contributed to anime such as Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Though from what little we have seen we have a sneaking suspicion that this new project might just be a “tad” more serious in nature.
Given that the man behind the emotional rollarcoaster that was Steins;Gate is going to assisting with the script, we can assume that whatever motivations guide this FRANXX character, there is bound to be some conflict and potential heartbreak down the line.
Plus she’s the lead mecha in an anime, which means she’s probably going to have to kill a loooooot of other giant robots along the way.
