Life-Size Gundam Unicorn Statue Unveiled In Japan

This Actually Happened!

Japan, you truly are the nirvana of nerds. Not only do you have some of the greatest works of comic fiction and animation under your belt, but then you go and one up yourselves by building a giant robot that can actually transform.

Because why not?

According to an article on Crunchyroll

The press preview event for the life-size (about 24 meters) statue of RX-0 Unicorn Gundam from the Mobile Suite Unicorn Gundam OVA series was held in the front of Diver City Tokyo in Odaiba on September 23. Several Japanese media, including The Japan Times, Oricon News, and Netlabo, have posted video reports showing how the Unicorn Gundam transformed from its unicorn mode to destroy mode.

For the ceremony, Kouki Uchiyama, the voice actor of the anime’s protagonist Banagher Links, newly recorded lines written by the original novel writer Harutoshi Fukui, and the soundtrack composer Hiroyuki Sawano provided a new song “Cage” as SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]. Also at the event, Sunrise’s President Yasuo Miyagawa confirmed that “a new project” of the Unicorn Gundam will be announced next spring.

While many will be in agreement that it isn’t exactly the same as having the original Mobile Suit Gundam statue on display, it can’t be denied than having another iconic mecha unveiled for all to see is still a thing of beauty.

Especially one that can actually go from Unicorn Mode to Destroy Mode. Seriously, Gundam Unicorn fans must have lost their collective minds over this.

LOOK AT IT! LOOK AT IT! DO YOU SEE THIS MAGNIFICENCE BEFORE YOU!

The fact we are also getting another season of Unicorn in the near future is just the icing on this oh so delectable cake. While the statue will undoubtedly be taken down at one point, it’s good to know that others will take it’s place.

It’s not like they aren’t spoiled for choice!
