Top 5 Machines In Horizon Zero Dawn

Clever Girl…

Aloy’s journey is on route to become one of the best games of the year, which isn’t really surprising given how it offered a single-player campaign with an engrossing story, a relatable and kick-ass heroine, gameplay that knew how to ramp up the tension, and of course giant robot dinosaurs.

We could go on forever about how Aloy’s exploits were both moving and inspiring or how they tackled all manner of social commentaries, but that’s something that should be experienced by the players themselves.

Now that the Frozen Wilds DLC has been released, there has never been a time to delve back into this breathtaking world. So in celebration, we’ll be counting down what we believe to be the top five mechanical enemies you’ll encounter throughout Horizon Zero Dawn.

Fair warning, there are MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

#5: Watcher

By the time you’ve learned to snipe down a Stormbird while leaping over a cliff, these little bastards hardly pose a problem. If anything they serve as minor annoyances and a free chance to grab some extra scrap to make more arrowheads. That being said, nothing can take away the fear we felt at the beginning of the game when a much younger Aloy had to sneak her way around several Watchers, who at that time could have easily crushed the little girl to pieces.

#4: Strider

You never forget your first mount. After gaining the ability to hack and control machines, the player finds themselves able to turn certain machines into persona steeds, making combat and travel far more investing. Out of all of them ones available, we had to go for this stallion-like machine, purely for its convenience and how beneficial it was during our time in the wilds!

#3: Sawtooth

Just when we thought we were an ace archer capable of taking down all machines, we encountered this beast. With it’s size, shape and sheer ferocity, the Sawtooth managed to bring the fear and tension back tenfold. Taking it down after so much preparation and sneaking was a joy to behold, though its fair to say our hands were shaking all-throughout.

#2: Tallneck

The only peaceful machine in the entire game, the Tallneck lives up to its name by wandering around the ruined world, never engaging in any form of combat. Serving as the replacement to towers that are often found in vast open-world games, the Tallnecks are oddly majestic creatures. Climbing their vast frames in order to unlock the rest of the world, taking a break in-between all those firefights and just staring out over the horizon made for the game’s most uplifting and beautiful moments.

#1: Thunderjaw

Monstrous, armed to the teeth, the poster boy for all enemies in the game, the Thunderjaw is the ultimate challenge and boss fight for Aloy to overcome. And it is awesome. Taking one down is no walk in the park and is arguably the most difficult enemy to kill (especially that one inside the Cauldron!) but after you finally manage to destroy it, you will feel like the Queen of the World!
