Bad Company, Quality Gaming
With the monster of a success that was last year’s Battlefield 1, it looks like DICE has managed to set up the perfect foundation for a sequel. Taking a gamble on historical conflicts over futuristic fantasy seems to have paid off so well that the developers are rumoured to be working on multiple new projects. We always knew that it wouldn’t be long for Battlefield 2 to reveal itself, but could it be possible that DICE are already making leeway with the next instalment in the beloved Bad Company franchise?
Someone seems to think so.
According to an article on Gaming Bolt –
Just a few days ago, we reported on a leak that seemed to claim that DICE are currently working on a new Battlefield game, and that that game is apparently going to be Bad Company 3, a continuation of the popular sub-series within the franchise. Responsible for the leak was AlmightyDal, who in the past has been responsible for other major (and credible) Battlefield leaks as well (such as for Battlefield 1). After some countering reports that seemed to claim that this leak may not have much truth in it, though, AlmightyDal has come out with another leak that goes into greater detail about whatâs in store for the future of the Battlefield franchise.
Apparently, thereâs two mainline Battlefield games currently in development at DICE. Bad Company 3 is in development at DICE LA. Meanwhile, DICEâs main studio, which is at Sweden, is working on what seems to be a spiritual successor to Battlefield 1 itself. This game will take place in a World War 2 setting.
According to the leak, the WW2-themed game is the one that most of the focus seems to be on internally at EA, and this is probably going to be the next game the series puts out. The leak claims it will be out in 2018, and is going to expand on on Battlefield 1âs biggest strengths, from its atmosphere and its old-school gunplay to its maps and map sizes. The game is without a name yet, though the leak claims DICE Sweden have narrowed it down to a few final contenders.
Battlefield: Bad Company 3, meanwhile, is in development at DICE LA, as mentioned earlier, though itâs not going to be out next year. The gist of its seems to be that both games are in development simultaneously, with the WW2-themed shooter due out this year, and Bad Company 3 taking centre stage in 2019.
If this does turn out to be true, then FPS fans are in for a royal treat! Let’s just hope that none of the undesirable qualities that made themselves known in Star Wars: Battlefront II make their way into Battlefield.
