Elementary My Dear Pokemon!
By now most of the internet has been made aware of the upcoming Detective Pikachu film, even though some of us still can’t believe its happening. From what we can gather, the narrative will follow a young man played by Justice Smith as he teams up with the titular Pokemon icon, who apparently has abandoned Ash and decided to try his luck at playing Sherlock Holmes. Oh, and the script is being written by the guy who created Gravity Falls.
As you can guess, this is either going to be a disaster or the greatest thing ever made.
But where did this idea come from? Well, believe or not this isn’t an original idea conjured up by Hollywood, rather its based on a Pokemon spin-off video game of the same name that hasn’t seen a release outside of Japan, until now that is.
According to an article on Anime News Network, it seems that Pikachu and his dapper hat will indeed by getting a worldwide release early this year, if only to give us time to adapt to this strange concept before we hear Deadpool’s voice come out of the yellow mouse’s mouth on the big screen.
The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo announced on Friday that the Detective Pikachu Nintendo 3DS game will launch in the West on March 23.
The Pokémon Company describes the story:
An action-adventure title, Detective Pikachu finds the hero of the title â a unique Pikachu in the Pokémon world â partnering with Tim Goodman and searching for evidence and clues to solve a series of cases, whilst also investigating the disappearance of Tim’s father, Harry Goodman.
When he arrives in Ryme City looking for his missing father, little does Tim know he would meet a Pikachu, but more amazingly a Pikachu who he could communicate with. There’s more to this Pikachu than a detective hat â he’s one lovably gruff, tough-talking sleuth, with a taste for good coffee.
This Pikachu claims that he worked with Tim’s father, and the two pair up to discover his whereabouts. Together, Tim and Detective Pikachu will encounter a number of mysteries in Ryme City and will need to talk to witnesses and gather their testimony in order to discover the truth.Â
The Detective Pikachu game includes all chapters from the original Japanese version of the game. In addition, the new game features additional content that completes the original story.
