Toy-Sized Terror
While the majority of anime under the Gundam name deal with the violence and repercussions of war, there are the odd few that have stepped outside its rather bleak narrative. The most successful of these is undoubtedly the lighthearted yet awesome Gundam Build Fighters series.
While it strips away the themes of horror and conflict, it does leave us with a cast of lovable characters as well as giant robots kicking the crap out of each other. As far as spectator sports go, its a feast for the eyes that we can’t get enough of.
Now it seems that the latest edition to the long-running Gundam Breaker video game series is going to be following the same pattern. Doing away with the character driven conflicts seen in the likes of Gundam Versus and the Dynasty Warriors Gundam series, this new entry looks to be all about smashing apart and reassembling Mobile Suits on a whim.
According to an article on Crunchyroll, New Gundam Breaker won’t just have the same hack and slash mechanics we’ve gotten used to, but will also allow real-time customisation mid-battle as you assemble your Gunpla from the remains of your defeated foes.
Bandai Namco revealed the latest entry in the Gundam Breaker series with the announcement of the appropriately-named New Gundam Breaker. The Unreal Engine 4-powered PlayStation 4 entry is coming to Japan and Southeast Asia in 2018, and Bandai Namco Entertainment confirmed plans for a western release.Â
New Gundam Breaker will have players building their own Gunpla while breaking down enemies in battle, collecting parts along the way. There’s also a new real-time customization system that lets you collect and add parts on the battlefield. Â
