Albion Reborn: Is There A New Fable Game In The Works?

Please Give Us More Chickens To Chase

The Fable series is just as beloved as it is despised. An RPG series that seemed to present interesting ideas and engrossing lore, only to be held back by combat and controls. Still, the franchise persisted, leading to the production of three main entries, with a spin-off known as Fable Legends halfway through production before the developers went out of buisness. Needless to say, Lionhead Studios certainly knew how to divide an audience, which truly is a shame because Fable always had such potential buried under the surface.

Well, if rumours are to be believed, Playground Games might be resurrecting the series. While the studio is well known for racing games, they are above all else one for quality. You need look no further than their efforts on Forza Horizon.

Genre aside, how would one go about turning Fable into a standout RPG? Not only does the title come with a fractured legacy, but we now live in a post Witcher 3 world. It seems that the developers have taken on a monumental task if they want to reach the bar that has been set by all other open-world mega-stars.

According to an article on Gamespot –

A new Fable game is in the works at Forza Horizon developer Playground Games, according to a new report. Eurogamer’s sources say the new title will be a “story and character-focused open-world action RPG,” as opposed to a spin-off such as the multiplayer-centric Fable Legends or motion-controlled Fable: The Journey.

The game is apparently still in the early stages of development at Playground’s newly-opened second studio. The company has previously confirmed that it’s working on a non-racing open-world game, codenamed Project 2, but until now we had no idea what that might be.

While its too early to tell whether this endeavour will manage to bring the best out of this faded fantasy, we’re still hopeful that Playground Games can elevate it in ways that even their creators could only dream.
