Spyro was one of several faces that helped put the original Sony PlayStation on the map back in the 90s. As video game mascots started to die out in popularity, though, so did the purple dragon. Granted, Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure was a huge commercial success and received mostly positive reviews from critics. Alas, many fans still long for Spyro’s glory days. Here are three things you need to know about the upcoming remaster, which will hopefully deliver everything we’ve been pining for.

3. It’s Coming Soon

Reports indicate that the remake is set to come out during the third quarter of 2018. This will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the first Spyro game, which hit store shelves in September 1998. In addition to acting as a launching point for the franchise, Spyro the Dragon sold a whopping 5 million copies worldwide.

2. Same Games, New Features

The remaster will consist of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon, rounding out the original trilogy. As they did with the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Vicarious Visions will be incorporating a few modern innovations. This includes updated animations and cinematics, a remastered soundtrack, and a more practical save feature.

1. It May Not Be a PS4 Exclusive

Upon release, the Spyro remaster will be an exclusive for the PlayStation 4. However, it’s possible that we’ll see it ported to other systems like the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One in 2019. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is expected to receive a similar treatment, meaning that collection may be ported later in 2018.
