While there are certainly several cultural differences between eastern and western animation, there can be no denying that over the years the two have slowly began to influence one another. While anime will always dominate when it comes to beautiful visuals and action sequences, you would still be wise to give these ten cartoons a shot. Not only do they make for great viewing experiences by themselves, but its clear that they have taken their cues from Japanimation, all with spectacular results!
#10: âCastlevaniaâ (2017-)
This Netflix original not only pays homage to the iconic video game series, but has all the whip action and beastly vampires you could ever want!
#9: âTeen Titansâ (2003-06)
They may be some of the DC Universe’s youngest heroes, but their quirky humor and stylised fight scenes are straight up shonen!
#8: âMegas XLRâ (2004-05)
Be honest, you can’t look at a show that involves giant robots fighting off aliens without at least thinking of series like Gundam.Â
#7: âMiraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noirâ (2015-)
While the city of Paris is deeply ingrained into the narrative, there’s no denying that this series is essentially a magical girl anime hidden under the guise of a superhero series. Yet it all blends together seamlessly!
#6: âStar vs. The Forces of Evilâ (2015-)
A magical princess blasting the crap out of aliens while trying to deal with various romantic issues? Sailor Moon fans eat your heart out.
#5: âSteven Universeâ (2013-)
Fight scenes, transformations, fusions, intergalactic warfare and the power of love. Steven and the rest of the Crystal Gems are a medley of anime-influenced awesomeness.
#4: âSamurai Jackâ (2001-04; 17)
Despite the abundance of aliens, robots and kilt-wearing warriors, at its core this show is a samurai’s journey make it back home and defeat the ultimate evil. The series is practically bursting at the seams with Japanese culture references.
#3: âVoltron: Legendary Defenderâ (2016-)
Technically based on a previous anime iteration, this American production manages to retain the look and feel of the original but with some homegrown charm weaved in.
#2: âRWBYâ (2013-)
This is essentially an anime through and through save for the fact it was created by the guys that made Red vs Blue! If you want to see kickass female characters wielding giant weapons, then look no further!

The world-building, the characters, the mythology, every single aspect about this series borrows heavily from eastern culture, and yet stands tall as one of the greatest western cartoons ever created.
