Another Top 3 Records Black Panther Has Already Broken

Black Panther continued to dominate the box office over its second weekend, grossing an estimated $112 million domestically, according to Forbes. It has currently made $404 million at the North American box office and surpassed the $700 million mark overall worldwide.

Ryan Coogler’s groundbreaking superhero film broke multiple records last weekend. Here are three more milestones it’s already reached within just 10 days.

3. The Fourth Film To Make Over $100 Million During a Second Weekend

Grossing over $100 during an opening weekend is a common occurrence for most modern blockbusters, but sustaining that success during a second weekend is rare. Black Panther joined an exclusive club that includes Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, and The Avengers, becoming the fourth film to make $100 million or more during weekend #2.

2. The Second Fasted to Reach $400 Million

Black Panther was also the second fasted film to reach the $400 million mark at the domestic box office. It just about tied with Jurassic World, which made $402.8 million within ten days. Those two blockbusters come in behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $440 million in eight days.

1. The Second Biggest Second Weekend Ever

Black Panther managed to take down both Jurassic World and The Avengers, having the biggest second weekend ever domestically. Once again, it came in behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $149 million. As pointed out by Box Office Mojo, though, the latest Marvel film has been holding up better than Star Wars: The Last Jedi when you compare their second weekends.

Bonus: Records to Come

Black Panther has given Captain America: Civil War ($408 million) and Iron Man 3 ($409 million) a run for their money. This puts it just behind the first two Avengers movies domestically, although it shouldn’t have much trouble outgrossing Age of Ultron ($459 million). That means it would only have to top 2012’s The Avengers ($623 million) as the franchise’s biggest entry ever. It’s also only a matter of time before Black Panther dethrones DC’s Wonder Woman ($412.5) as the biggest superhero origin movie of all time.
