3 of the Cringiest Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande Moments

Oh For Pete’s Sake…

It’s official, the most publicized and criticized relationship of the summer has come to an end. SNL‘s Pete Davidson and pop music icon Ariana Grande‘s engagement terminated recently, causing an uproar of news stories and social media opinions. This past Saturday, Davidson performed at Judd Apatow’s Judd & Pete for America, where he publicly spoke and joked about the breakup for the first time. According to E! News, he opened with a literal call for help, saying “Well, as you could tell, I don’t want to be here. There’s a lot going on,” “Does anybody have any open rooms? Looking for a roommate?” He continued to poke fun at the aftermath of the split, including some self-deprecating jokes about their engagement tattoos, demonstrating in classic Pete Davidson fashion that nothing is off the table when it comes to his comedy. His blunt, filterless humour may work sometimes, but it has definitely gotten him into some trouble over the past few months. Here are 3 of the cringiest Pete Davidson moments that occurred during his short-lived relationship with Ariana Grande.

His Ambiguous Cutie Comment

Four years after Ariana Grande’s grandfather passed away, she posted an endearing old picture of them together on Instagram. Later that day, Davidson commented “omg what a cutie” on the photo. An impassioned section of Grande’s followers called him out for trying to compliment his fiancée during a somber occasion. Davidson replied that his remark was aimed at her grandfather and criticized people for trying to start drama. Although his cute comment is open to misinterpretation, zealous commentators might be more to blame than anyone here for this awkward exchange.

His Response to the Aretha Franklin Funeral Controversies

During Aretha Franklin’s funeral, Ariana Grande was subjected to a couple of questionable encounters. After Bill Clinton appeared to check her out, Bishop Charles H. Ellis III made a cheap joke about Grande’s name before placing his hand on the side of her . . . chest? According to an article by Us Weekly, when Davidson was asked how he felt about both incidents on Howard Stern’s radio show, he joked about how proud he was seeing Clinton’s eyes glued to Grande, and opined that the bishop’s hand placement was probably unintentional. This enraged some Ariana fans, who felt he was objectifying his fiancée. For more controversial funeral etiquette, check out the video HERE on the Top 10 Biggest Celebrity Funeral Scandals.

Birth Control Sabotage

It seems like Davidson couldn’t go a week without controversy cropping up around his relationship. On the 44th season premiere of “Saturday Night Live”, he spoke about his engagement on the Weekend Update. But when he joked about swapping Grande’s birth control with mints in order to baby trap her, and ensure the continuation of his now lavish lifestyle, he struck a nerve with some viewers, and the joke quickly turned sour. Tirades on twitter attacked him for making light of abusive behaviour, condemning the comedian as creepy and inappropriate.
