The Front Runner: Fitbit Charge 3

The Charge 3 may not be the most advanced fitness tracker out there, but it does all of the fundamental stuff incredibly well. For around $100, the Charge 3 provides you with an accurate pedometer and heart rate tracker, automatic workout detection, and even sleep tracking functionality. Add that to its responsive touchscreen and incredibly easy-to-use set-up, and you’ve got a fitness tracker that will suit everyone from newbies to workout enthusiasts.

The Comparable: Garmin Vivosmart 4

Also priced at around $100, the Vivosmart 4 isn’t exactly aimed at athletes. Instead, it aims to offer casual fitness fans an ultra-slim, sleek-looking band with an incredibly impressive battery life of up to a week, depending on how much you exercise. As well as helping record your steps, calories burned, and all the standard metrics, it also has a nifty “Body Battery” mode, which can advise you on your optimal time for you to work out.

The Budget Option: Amazfit Bip

Although the Fitbit Inspire HR is definitely worth a shout-out in this category, we wanted to give the Amazfit Bip a piece of the limelight. Although a pretty basic fitness tracker compared to some others on this list,  the $70 Bip offers the sporty aesthetics of a smartwatch. It also has a fantastic app to accompany its fitness tracking features, and a simply staggering battery life of up to 30 days off a single charge.

The Kid’s Choice: Fitbit Ace 2 Activity Tracker

Your children may not be all that interested in counting calories, but this fitness tracker can introduce them to a world of fun with its step counter, in-built virtual badge achievements and ability to challenge their friends. Aimed at ages six and up, this $60 tracker with waterproofing  boasts a long 5-day battery life. According to Forbes, “the Ace 2 is rugged – more so than most adult fitness trackers.”

The Smartwatch: Apple Watch Series 5

Although many of the trackers on this list have some smartwatch features, the Apple Watch Series 5 is much more extensive in functionality than most. With the ability to make calls and send texts on the go, even without your phone, it’s the ultimate smartphone companion. It’s also ridiculously customisable and has a slew of fitness-focused features. It may be pricey at $400 and have less battery life than, well, almost any other fitness tracker, but it’s got style and functionality.

So which fitness tracker should you choose? Well, that depends. Are you a fitness fanatic, or are you a casual jogger? If you’d class yourself as the former, then be sure to invest in a device that has all the bells and whistles you’ll need.
