#10: Tom Hiddleston
With childhood ties to the Wimbledon area, Tom Hiddleston always looks the part when stepping out at Centre Court. The Loki actor is consistently ranked amongst the best dressed celebs in attendance, always adding just a touch more class to an already classic tournament. Also known for starring as Captain James Conrad in “Kong: Skull Island” and Dr. Robert Laing in “High Rise”, Hiddleston has followed Andy Murray’s career in particular – and has been present for some of the Scot’s greatest moments on grass.
#9: Katherine Jenkins
Barely a British summertime goes by without Katherine Jenkins being snapped at SW19. The Welsh operatic crossover star is almost ever-present at the event, watching the action unfold from the Royal Box. Since 2014, Wimbledon has given fans a glimpse of Jenkins with her husband, the artist, actor and director Andrew Levitas, and the singer’s attendance in 2015 caught even more attention as it came weeks after the announcement that the couple were expecting their first child. If any player can serve half as well as Jenkins can sing, then they have a very good chance of winning.
#8: Jude Law
Often billed as the archetypal Brit, it seems only right that Jude law is a Wimbledon regular. And, like Tom Hiddleston, he always raises the bar when it comes to courtside style. Best known for starring roles in “The Talented Mr. Ripley”, “Sherlock Holmes” and “King Arthur”, Law usually appears suited, booted and often sporting shades. But an earlier look remains one of his most memorable. He and then-girlfriend Sienna Miller rocked the All England Club in 2004 when they graced the green seats in boho-chic get-ups, a height of fashion choice at the time.
#7: Tess Daly and Vernon Kay
This TV power couple are often the talk of the tabloids, so their days out at Wimbledon rarely go unnoticed. Strictly Come Dancing’s Tess Daly puts her best foot forward every year with a variety of on-trend ensembles and fabulous fashion choices, while the typically-dapper Vernon Kay seems always to be snapped with a smile on his face. The couple have faced speculation surrounding their relationship in the past but, like strawberries and cream, they seem the perfect pair with every passing tournament. We’re just waiting for the LTA to call a surprise celeb doubles match; our money would be on these two.
#6: Sir Chris Hoy
A richly decorated athlete in his own right, Olympic cyclist, six-times gold medallist and eleven-times world champion Sir Chris Hoy is surely one of Britain’s leading authorities on top level sport. And Wimbledon appears one of his favourite venues. The velodrome king is a serial spectator, and another who has kept a close eye on the fortunes of Andy Murray. In fact, in late 2016, following a stellar year for Murray in which he won a second Wimbledon crown and toppled Novak Djokovic to become world number one, the cyclist described the tennis ace as ‘Scotland’s greatest ever sportsperson’. Given that Hoy was born and raised in Edinburgh, that’s some compliment.
#5: Drake
What better way to take a break from a busy rap career than by taking in some tennis? Drake is a somewhat surprising Wimbledon regular, but his love for the lawns is a longstanding thing. Drizzy’s relationship with the Wimbledon faithful has had some minor hiccups in the past, however. Drake’s dress down approach has caused a minor racket with some traditionalists, while his 2015 visit triggered embarrassment for autograph hunters, when they mistook him for the late ‘90s R&B artist Craig David. There’s no confusing his passion for the game, though. He’s as real as it gets.
#4: Niall Horan
For One Directioner turned solo artist, Niall Horan, if ever there’s a gap in his schedule over the Wimbledon fortnight, it’s a good bet that he’ll be there. The singer, who is a friend of Novak Djokovic’s, always seems engrossed in the action – except for when he’s pulling funny faces for hashtag selfies, or posing for photos with fans. Away from tennis, Horan is a big sports buff in general with notable talents as a golfer at pro-am events. And he has been known to bring his buddies to Centre Court too; 1D’s Liam Payne showed up in 2014, to see the likes of Heather Watson and Rafael Nadal.
#3: David Beckham
For the Beckhams, Wimbledon has become a real family outing. David seems ever-present at the Championships, especially since retiring from football in 2013. Victoria Beckham was there to see Murray’s historic first win later that year, and the Beckham boys have accompanied their father on various occasions since – there are even reports that Romeo could become a future tennis star. For David, the former England captain and famed free kick-taker has become synonymous with Centre Court, and even briefly took centre stage in 2015 when he effortlessly caught an errant service ball.
#2: Kate Middleton
Wimbledon often proves a royal occasion, particularly towards its latter stages, and most of the grandeur gravitates around the Duchess of Cambridge - especially since she took over from the Queen as royal patron for the tournament in 2017. A lifelong tennis fan who regularly plays matches against her husband, with an apparently very competitive edge, Kate Middleton is way more than simply a ceremonial spectator. Along with her sister, Pippa, she seems to strike every serve, volley and drop shot from the edge of her Royal Box seat. And with rumours that Prince George has a budding interest in the game, it could be a case of ‘watch this space’.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
Cliff Richard
Victoria Pendleton
Miranda Hart
#1: Bradley Cooper
Actors don’t come much more A-list than this guy. His back catalogue is bursting with blockbusters, and red carpet events are a weekly occurrence. But in Bradley Cooper’s downtime, he’s all about the tennis. And he really gets involved. He’s out of his seat, back in it again, biting his nails and hiding behind his hands. He struck up a memorable bromance with Gerard Butler for the 2013 final, and was famously pictured amidst heated conversation with model girlfriend, Irina Shayk, in 2016 – while ex-girlfriend Suki Waterhouse sat just seats away. All dramas aside however, he’s today’s number one seed, the tournament favourite and celeb super-fan. Game, set and match.
