Top 10 Emilia Clarke Moments

For this list, we're looking at the English actress's most memorable moments, outside of her actual roles in film and television.

#10: Wedding Crasher
When the seasoned talk show host points out how different the actress looks without her blonde wig and uh, dragons, Emilia recalls a time when she had been out with co-star Kit Harington and was asked by oblivious fans to take their photo with him. She also brings up an amusing anecdote about crashing a “Game of Thrones”- themed wedding with actress Nathalie Emmanuel. Later on, Andy Richter is quick to point out that a wedding is probably the most inappropriate event to make “Game of Thrones”- themed and, well, he's not not wrong. Perhaps a Game of Thrones stag-do instead?
#9: Wookiee Impression
To promote “Solo”, Emilia, along with Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo, took part in Wired’s Autocomplete Interview series. What began as tongue-in-cheek answers to badly worded questions soon descended into light-hearted anarchy as the playful Emilia encouraged Joonas to joke along with her about everything from joint birthday parties to sleeping in one of his giant shoes. The pair also reminisced about their college years, tattoos and basketball, while frequently veering off topic. Never missing the chance to go out on a memorable note, Emilia signs off the interview with her now notoriously terrible Wookie growl... well, gargle at least.
#8: Reading Fan Theories
When it comes to shows with intertwining stories and characters, fans have a tendency to speculate and hypothesize an abundance of possible outcomes. Here, for Elle Magazine, Emilia had a chance to sample some of the more ridiculous fan theories, courtesy of a questionably authentic messenger raven. Clarke laughed and played along with absurd speculations concerning Dany’s future in the series. A good majority of the submissions dealt with finding the Khaleesi a new suitor, ranging from Samwell Tarly to, oddly enough, Captain Jack Sparrow. It’s yet to be seen if any of these fan theories will come true, but don’t hold your breath.
#7: “Callie from the Valley”
Like fellow Britons Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch, Clarke seems to have a natural talent for impersonations. Though her Chewbacca leaves much to be desired, her go-to mimic is “Callie from the Valley”, an archetypal Californian blonde. The character began as an attempt to “blend in” during her time spent living in New Orleans during production of “Terminator Genisys”, but now Clarke never fails to crack up chat show hosts and audiences alike with her pitch perfect rendition of the superficial stereotype, modelled, by her own admission, off of Alicia Silverstone’s airheaded Cher Horowitz from 1995’s “Clueless”.
#6: “Friends” Fangirling
Can you blame her? For anyone who grew up in the '90s, escaping the mammoth pop culture phenomenon known as “Friends” was impossible. Whilst promoting “Me Before You” on “The Graham Norton Show”, Clarke was unable to contain her excitement of sharing the sofa with Joey Tribbiani himself: Matt LeBlanc. Obviously star-struck, Emilia was all smiles as she gushed over LeBlanc, inevitably requesting him to deliver his signature Joey chat-up line. LeBlanc took it a step further when Clarke’s nude scenes were discussed on the show, with a comment that made her swoon.
#5: Eyebrow-Off
Joking with Joey wasn’t Emilia’s only highlight from her time on Graham Norton’s sofa. The year prior, at Norton's insistence, she, along with Cara Delevingne and Jake Gyllenhaal showed off their shared trademark facial feature, while Arnold Schwarzenegger judged the competition. Clarke, not one to be outdone, flexed each brow individually in rhythm before using her position as the Terminator co-star to sway his deciding vote. Crazy eyebrows may not be worth putting on her CV, though she can always hope one day Cadbury decides to remake that advert...
#4: WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS???
It’s the question that sums up the young queen’s entire Season 2 storyline, and has entered the zeitgeist alongside “Winter is Coming”. Clarke decided to laugh at it herself in a video for Glamour Magazine, in which she makes fun of her now-well meme'd overly-dramatic delivery. Clarke repeats the infamous demand with real-world variations in her day to day life, putting on her best diva face and channelling her inner Valyrian to scream for an uber, kale chips, a frappe and Justin Bieber. It’s good to see Clarke is capable of self-deprecation, one of her most admirable qualities.
#3: Omaze Set Tour Promo
Shooting for the final season in Westeros was understandably shrouded in secrecy; something Clarke decided to poke fun at when she teamed up with Omaze to offer a special behind the scenes tour of the set. She feigns optimism and hopefulness despite the inevitable denial of access by producers and security, insuring no secrets are spilled as her attempt to win favour with the fans turns into a comical let-down. The promo is a funny and clever tongue-in-cheek satire on both exclusive sneak-peaks and the secrecy surrounding TV show finales, whilst turning attention to a good cause.
#2: Rastafarian Targaryen
At the peak of “Game Of Thrones’” popularity, the cast got together with Coldplay’s Chris Martin for Comic Relief 2015 to take part in a tongue-in-cheek “Game of Thrones Musical”. The special showcased a love ballad by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and a rock anthem by Peter Dinklage among others, whilst Clarke used her screen time to bring a Jamaican vibe to the Mother of Dragons, listing off her various titles in a reggae smoothness that would make Bob Marley proud. The only crime is that there isn’t a full version.
#1: Stock Photos
In a satirical video for Vanity Fair, Emilia shows off her hidden "passion" for posing for business stock photos. The funny here is all down to how straight and serious Clarke plays it, analysing the deeper meanings of graphs and diagrams and the addictive mystery of Sharpies. Clarke uses her naturally expressive face as “Barbara the Businesswoman” to recreate some of the most common business stock photos such as “pointing at statistics” and “it’s going to be okay”. At least she has something to fall back on if work dries up after “Game of Thrones”!
