#10: James Corden’s Origin Story

They don’t just give out late night hosting gigs to anyone…or do they? In this hilarious and star-studded sketch from his first episode of “The Late Late Show”, James Corden details exactly how he landed the highly coveted role of host. Featuring cameos from Simon Cowell, Chris Rock, Billy Crystal, Meryl Streep and many more, the clip parodies “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” to maximum comedic effect. Corden plays a hapless nobody who has to be coached by Jay Leno and Arnold Schwarzenegger in order to become a competent host. Who knew the journey to becoming a late-night TV personality was so demanding?

#9: When Corden Showed Off His Modelling Skills with David Beckham

In this advertisement for the fake underwear line “D&J Briefs”, James Corden and his pal David Beckham strip down to their underwear for a black and white photoshoot. The contrast between them might get the first laugh, but it’s Corden’s goofy behavior and faux-seriousness that brings it home. Corden’s cheekiness peaks when he describes the briefs this way: [“It’s underwear for a man with a great body . . . and David Beckham”]. This would not be the last time Corden made a joke at the former soccer star’s expense. In 2019 Beckham was set to be honored by the L.A. Galaxy with a statue outside their stadium. Corden used the opportunity to swap out the real statue for his own . . . special version instead . . .

#8: When Gordon Ramsay Played “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts”

“Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” is a recurring segment on “The Late Late Show” that involves James Corden and a guest choosing between eating disgusting food or answering embarrassing or controversial questions. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay stopped by for a round of this admittedly horrible sounding game in 2018; and the results were fantastic! Some of the food options included: bull’s penis, grasshopper, salmon ice cream, and pickled pigs’ feet juice. Getting hungry yet? The questions were equally daunting, with both men biting the bullet multiple times and eating the gross food in front of them.

#7: Playing Tattoo Roulette with One Direction

James Corden is always coming up with fresh and exciting games to play with his guests. However, by his own admission, he regrets inventing “Tattoo Roulette”. It’s exactly what it sounds like: Corden and the boys from One Direction each select a box. Inside four of them is the word “Safe”, but inside the fifth box is the word “tattoo”. If Corden lost he’d have to get “One D” tattooed on him, but if one of the boys lost, they’d have to get “Late Late” inked on their skin. Corden and Niall Horan were by far the most nervous, but in the end their fears were unfounded, as Harry Styles was the one to pick the “tattoo” box.

#6: The Crosswalk Production of “Grease”

“The Late Late Show” has no shortage of fun recurring segments. One that never fails to impress is “Crosswalk the Musical”, which involves Corden and a troupe of actors staging performances in the middle of the road during traffic stops. The performances have gotten more elaborate over time; and have grown to include A-list stars like Hugh Jackman and Seth Rogen. However, it all started with the crosswalk production of “Grease” in 2015. Dressed up as the Pink Ladies and T-Birds respectively, Corden and his actors put on a hell of a show for the drivers at the intersection of Beverly Blvd. and Genesee Ave.

#5: When Corden & Alanis Morissette Updated the Lyrics to “Ironic”

Updating the lyrics of a classic song is never easy. However, when James Corden is involved, at least it’s hilarious! In 2015 Alanis Morissette stopped by the show to sing her Grammy nominated 1996 hit song “Ironic”, but with a few…changes. Corden and Morissette rock matching outfits for the performance, which included such new lines as “it’s like swiping left on your future soulmate” and “it’s like Amazon but your package never came”. We can’t say we prefer this new version over the original, but honestly, it’s kinda like comparing apples and oranges.

#4: Speed Acting Through Tom Hanks’ Career

Can these two actually host a show together one day? James Corden and Tom Hanks make for one hell of a comedic duo, as evidenced by this side-splitting skit in which they act out portions of Hank’s film career. Starting with“Forrest Gump”, the sketch runs through the best of the Oscar winner’s roles, with Corden along for the ride. The host plays everyone from Meg Ryan in “Sleepless in Seattle” to Wilson the volleyball in “Cast Away”. We love everything about this sketch – from the haphazardly thrown together costumes, to Hanks’ commitment to the bit.

#3: Carpool Karaoke with the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Carpool Karaoke is without a doubt James Corden’s most popular recurring segment. And while he’s managed to land everyone from Elton John to Cardi B, we’ll always have a soft spot for the time he cruised the strip with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The gang runs through the best of the band’s catalogue, from spirited performances of “Can’t Stop” and “Give It Away” to an impromptu rendition of “Food, Glorious Food” from the musical “Oliver!”. At one point they even get out of the car and wrestle! However, the highlight is when they strip off, in true Chili Peppers fashion, for a performance of “The Zephyr Song”.

#2: Corden & Anna Kendrick’s Soundtrack to a Love Story

James Corden has proven time and time again that he can make magic with pretty much anyone. Case in point: this incredible musical performance with actress Anna Kendrick. Using popular songs to describe their emotions, the two sing their way through an entire relationship. Appropriately titled “Soundtrack to a Love Story”, the clip sees the two celebs belting out everything from Bruno Mars’ “Marry You” to Adele’s “Someone Like You”. The way they use hit songs to take viewers on a journey through their pretend relationship is awesome and definitely something we’ll be watching again and again!

Before we unveil our top pick, here are some honorable mentions:

Betty White’s Prank Call

Cooking with Gordon Ramsay

Playing Live Tinder

#1: David Schwimmer & Rebel Wilson’s Drop the Mic Battle

You know you have a winning segment when it spawns its own TV show! In this iteration of “Drop the Mic”, James Corden goes toe-to-toe with David Schwimmer and Rebel Wilson! The rap battle is overflowing with epic one-liners, with Corden taking shots at Schwimmer’s acting career, and the former “Friends” star clapping back with remarks about the host’s weight and effeminate middle name – it’s Kimberley in case you were wondering. Things really heat up when Rebel Wilson hits the stage, with the comedian mercilessly tearing into both men! With the crowd going nuts, Wilson is crowned champion; but the real winners are the viewers at home!
