Top 10 The Mighty Boosh Moments

Top 10 The Mighty Boosh Moments
VOICE OVER: RiB
Written by Richard Bush

This is going to get weird. Welcome to WatchMojo UK and today we'll be counting down the top 10 moments from the Mighty Boosh.

For this list, we're focussing on the craziest scenes from Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt's surreal show, from its wacky wordplay to its zany zookeepers.

Special thanks to our users chloerusso and gl0wist for submitting the idea on our interactive suggestion tool: WatchMojo.comsuggest

#10: I Don’t Like Cricket

If you ever wanted to prove just how random “The Boosh” is, this clip will do it. One of the very first scenes in the series, quirky zoo manager Bob Fossil, played by Rich Fulcher, asks Howard to step into his office. For no reason whatsoever, Fossil is elaborately dancing to 10cc’s “Dreadlock Holiday”. We just watch on with Howard and wait till he’s made his point…

#9: Goth Girls

Howard likes Jazz. That may be cool with some people, but not with goths. So, after hearing that Vince’s new friends display a darker mood, he drops the colourful clothing in a desperate bid to fit in, with pale make-up, a tight top and too much hairspray. The fact that Vince nails his gloomy ‘Topgoth’ look is besides the point, as Howard’s ripped trousers and bleak anecdotes completely kill the mood. Classic Howard.

#8: The Mirror World

“The Boosh” is littered with other-worldly one-off characters, and the Mirror World’s Mr. Susan is a prime example. Stuck in a World, well, a small room consisting of over 17 mirrors, he awaits someone to take his place, dancing around, spray gun in hand. As you may expect, Vince is extremely cavalier about the idea of being stuck with his own reflection for eternity, which only annoys the cloth-covered creature. Oh, and how can we forget his mirror balls.

#7: The Guys Go Coconuts

When stuck on a desert island, a little madness is a given, right? Take Howard and Vince for example. After falling out and retreating to their own sides of the island, they occupy their minds by creating new friends out of fallen coconuts. Things quickly escalate from friendship to romance, resulting in Howard’s awkward encounter with Vince’s creation, Ruby. It all goes a little soap opera, and Howard is left to improvise by putting a wig on his friend Milky Joe. Yeah.

#6: Howard’s Deal With The Spirit of Jazz

One of many haunting yet hilarious Noel Fielding characters, the Spirit of Jazz is a soul-hungry fiend looking to make a deal with hapless musician Howard. Sporting voodoo makeup, a top hat and a white suit, he coerces Howard into signing his soul away. The character's first appearance sees him bounce around the bar and tease Howard with his demonic voice. Should we tell him about his hat?

#5: I Go By Many Names

Musicians are known for being a bit dramatic, from time to time - take Jazz fusion guitarist Rudi van Disarzio, well, we think that’s what he calls himself. Bumping into the big fro guitarist whilst looking for Howard in the woods, Vince is bombarded with a long list of names and a few strange tests, including the pipe test - and the balls test. A character that always serves up a unique performance in live shows, it’s strange, controversial and totally Boosh.

#4: Vince Visits The Crack Fox

Probably the most bizarre and sinister character in the entire Boosh back-catalogue, the banjo-playing Crack Fox lives in a fortress of bin bags and left overs, with syringes for fingers and an evil agenda. Showing Vince his home and telling of his troubled past, the character is expertly played by Julian Barratt, and following this encounter, becomes a seriously dangerous antagonist throughout the episode. You should check out his galoshes.

#3: The Hitcher and His Thumb

After picking up a suspicious-looking, polo-eyed hitchhiker, Howard attempts to break the ice with a little small talk. But, it doesn't get him anywhere - until he asks the green-faced stranger to tell him about his unusually large thumb. The Hitcher happily obliges - going into great detail about his dramatic encounter with a hornet shaman. A recurring character in the series, this is by far his greatest moment. What’s more awkward than sitting in silence? Doing so after a story like this.

#2: The Four-Way Crimp

The crimp has become an integral part of Boosh folklore - providing a platform for crazy a capella stories unlike anything else in this world. The finale in this season three episode sees Howard and Vince battle it out in a crimp off against two guys trying to steal their act. But they soon realise they will need to take things to the next level, so they recruit Bollo and Naboo to create the four-way crimp. Nonsensical from start to finish, it’s poetry in motion.

#1: Love Games

We finish with what is probably the most famous Boosh character of all - the tutu-sporting Old Gregg - and an unusual, yet romantic moment in his cave lair. Infatuated with Howard after meeting him on his boat, Gregg expresses his passion and love through song - and although the feelings aren't mutual, Howard can’t help but join in. And just when you thought it couldn't get any weirder, they go and have a bit of dance. It’s vintage Boosh, and God that’s a catchy song.
