Luke, or Rook, if anything, seems more like a Joey to me, but the entire show lacks the rival character that made the MC try harder and almost stole the show. Kaiba from DM, Jack Atlas from 5Ds, Kite from Zexal, bugger all from this series!
Also, in what universe is "road" an appropriate term for inventions? Roads are things you walk on, they're not gadgets. It may have been some clever pun in Japanese, but in English, it just sounds dumb.

We don't have anything like ancient Egyptian Shadow Games, or card games on motorcycles, or duelists riding on dragons- no. It's just some school, and a bunch of kids doing things. And the new rules got introduced because one kid just felt bored. Seriously, is there anything that would significantly change in the story if Rush Duels never existed?

Nothing but Rush Duels

Just to be clear, this isn't a complaint against Rush Duels and their rules, but the fact that we see nothing BUT Rush Duels ever! It's as if that's all there ever was, heck, even villains that supposedly hate Rish DUels still play only by those rules. I'm starting to feel as if there was never such thing as a classic duel in this continuity.
Also, recall how the Goha museum displayed the history of dueling, yet failed to mention ANYTHING of what happened in the previous series? No kaiba Corp, no Academies... either there's a conspiracy where Goha is trying to keep the history a secret, or the series just doesn't give a damn about the classics.

What the hell does "modern duels have become rigid" even mean?
Not that we're ever given an example of this "rigid duels", since every single duel so far has been a Rush Duel. And it's not like the real Master Duel meta has shown any signs of slowing down, we now have Olympian God Space Robots fighting Keter-class SCP nasties, in WHAT way is any of this "rigid"?
