For this list, we’ll be looking at some fun facts related to singer and songwriter Laura Pergolizzi, better known by their stage name LP.

#5: Rihanna Helped Her Break into the Industry

Breaking through as an artist can be one of the hardest things to do. The music world is so overly saturated with noise that digging through it and finding something worthwhile can often feel like an impossible task. The artist known as LP caught her biggest break when Rihanna asked her to co-write what would become “Cheers (Drink to That)”. The party song served as the final single released from Rihanna’s 2010 album, “Loud”; and while LP may have been one of ten people credited with writing the song, there’s no denying that the credit helped nudge her career in the right direction.

#4: She Grew up a Shy Performer

Fans of LP’s musical stylings will be quick to point out that the Long Island singer has one of the most distinctive voices in the game. However, roll back the clock to LP’s youth and you’d be hard pressed to get little Laura to sing without turning on a lawnmower first. The prospect of people hearing her powerful voice was so overwhelming that Pergolizzi would sing over noisy household items as a way of drowning out her vocals. It’s a good thing LP got over it, because it would have made for some pretty unbearable concerts otherwise…

#3: LP is a Martin Guitar Ambassador

C.F. Martin & Company is a guitar manufacturer that has been producing high quality instruments for nearly 200 years. They are noted for their steel-string guitars as well as their ever-growing community of musical brand ambassadors. So when Martin Guitars offered LP the chance to serve as one of their ambassadors, alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran, Weezer, City and Colour, and Ben Howard well, she would have been crazy to say no. Since joining the illustrious club in 2012, LP has rocked out on a number of Martin’s finest ukuleles

#2: LP Songs Have Been Featured on TV

Though you might not be familiar with LP’s music under that name, there’s a decent chance that you’ve already heard one of her tunes while watching tv. The songwriter has had two songs prominently featured on hit shows since 2010. First, the song “Damage is Done” played during an episode of the reality TV series “The Hills”. This was followed by the song “Muddy Waters” being played during the final scene of the season four finale of “Orange Is the New Black” in 2016. Keep your ears open; an LP track might just be featured on next episode of your favorite show.

#1: LP has Written Songs for Multiple Artists

Since 2007, LP has been attributed with a number of different songwriting credits for a variety of performers. Pergolizzi’s first credit was for the Backstreet Boys song “Love Will Keep You Up All Night” back in 2007. It wasn’t long before she found herself writing for the likes of Christina Aguilera, Chiddy Bang, Cher and Ella Henderson. However, Pergolizzi is much more than just a co-writer, having released four studio albums since 2001 under the name LP. In fact, the song “Lost on You” made it to 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016. With so much talent and ever-increasing recognition, LP’s future is certainly looking bright.
