Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About Lucy Hale

We bet you didn’t see these coming! Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About Lucy Hale.

For this list, we’ll be breaking down a few things you may not know about actor and singer Lucy Hale.

#5: She Didn’t Audition for “Pretty Little Liars”

Prior to being cast as Aria Montgomery, Lucy Hale spent years honing her craft on some of television’s hottest shows, from “The O.C.” and “How I Met Your Mother” to “The Wizards of Waverly Place”. By the time “Pretty Little Liars” was casting, she was already known to members of the industry and wasn’t required to audition. However, the role she’d originally been eyeing was that of Hanna Marin, as she felt it would allow her to take on a new type of character; one that she hadn’t played before. In the end she proved to be a better fit as Aria and the role of Hanna went to Ashley Benson.

#4: She Auditioned for “Fifty Shades of Grey’s” Anastasia Steele

No doubt one of 2013’s most sought-after roles, numerous actors were considered for the part of Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of E.L. James’ steamy romance novel. Not wanting to miss out on what could potentially be a career game changer, Lucy Hale threw her hat into the mix. However, according to an interview she gave to Cosmopolitan, the “audition was so uncomfortable,” as there were things she was “embarrassed to be reading out loud.” Hey, don’t sign up for an erotic, BDSM themed film if you aren’t ready for a few awkward scenes with your male co-star!

#3: She Struggled with an Eating Disorder

With more and more celebrities feeling comfortable discussing their personal issues with the public, Lucy Hale stepped forward and revealed in 2012 that she used to starve herself in order to maintain her slim frame. According to her, she “would go days without eating.” Thankfully she has put all of that behind her and is now able to talk about it in a constructive manner. Hopefully, her story can serve as an inspiration to others who are struggling with eating disorders and perhaps even help them get better.

#2: She Originally Wanted to Be a Singer

When Lucy Hale first moved from Tennessee to Los Angeles when she was 15 to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, she did so in the hopes of making it as a singer. However, after landing a few small television roles, she shifted to her focus to acting. In fact, Hale considers music her first love, and she lists Britney Spears and Shania Twain as some of her earliest influences. Her dream finally came true in 2012, when she landed a record deal with Hollywood Records. Her first album “Road Between” dropped two years later and peaked at number 14 on the US Billboard 200. Now that’s what we call a double threat!

#1: She Got Her Big Break on “American Juniors”

Lucy Hale got her start on this short-lived “American Idol” spinoff back in 2003. The show, which gave aspiring young singers the chance to make it big, was her first taste of the spotlight; and she certainly made the most of it. Hale was one of the show’s five finalists who went on to form the creatively titled pop group American Juniors. Unfortunately, they failed to find an audience and broke up in 2005 due to lack of publicity. “American Juniors” the show only lasted for one season.
