Top 3 Things You Missed in Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5

The Mad Queen has arrived. Welcome to WatchMojo, and today, we’re counting down our picks for the Top 3 Things You Missed In Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5, “The Bells.”

#3: The Mad King’s Wildfire Caches

Through the chaos and destruction of this horrific episode, you probably noticed the familiar green color of wildfire. The highly flammable substance has made quite a few memorable appearances throughout the series, including during the Battle of the Blackwater and the Destruction of the Great Sept of Baelor. But where did all this wildfire come from during Danny’s attack on King’s Landing? Throughout the series, we’ve learned that the Mad King’s plan to destroy the city involved hiding wildfire caches throughout King’s Landing. Well, looks like Drogon’s dragon fire reached these caches and triggered brutal explosions. The sight of the wildfire explosions is a powerful image, linking Danny with her father and symbolizing her transition into the Mad Queen. Those poor civilians already had dragons and soldiers to deal with - talk about adding fuel to the fire!

#2: Bran’s Vision

This episode paid-off a couple of prophetic visions from earlier in the series. Let’s start with the image of a dragon flying above King’s Landing. We first saw this image back in Season 4 when Bran touched the Weirwood Tree. Many believed that the vision was of the past, a time before dragons disappeared from the world early in the Targaryens’ reign. Some believed that it was foreshadowing the Night King arriving at King’s Landing atop Viseryon. Well, we finally know the answer: Bran saw Daenerys. This confirms something many fans likely already surmised: Bran doesn’t just see the past; he can also see into the future. Could that explain what he was doing during the Battle of Winterfell?

Before we get to our top moment, here are some of the best lines from this week’s episode:

#1: Danny’s Vision

Another vision that was finally paid-off was from way back in the Season 2 finale. While imprisoned by the Warlocks of Quarth, Danny enters a room, which appears as the Red Keep, destroyed and covered in snow. While some fans initially believed that this foreshadowed the Night King’s destruction of King’s Landing, we now know that what we were looking at wasn’t snow: it was ash. In the final moments of the episode, we see Arya standing as ash falls from the sky, covering the ground like snow. Danny once said she didn’t come to Westeros to be Queen of the Ashes. However, after destroying the seat of power in Westeros and burning her would-be-subjects, she became just that.
