Sometimes they're trying to get a message across, other times they're trying to put visuals to their music, and still other times, they may want to entertain, shock or get attention. For our second list of controversial music videos, we've decided to feature a mix of those voted by our users on our Suggestion page, those suggested by our YouTube commenters and others that missed our first list. #10: “Viðrar vel til loftárása”
Sigur Rós
Despite being acclaimed for its cinematic mood, the music video for this track off Sigur Ros’ second studio album raised quite a bit of debate. Set in the band’s homeland during the 1950s, its most contentious moment was the kiss between two young male football players. Though the boys’ PDA is ultimately broken up by some adults, the video did attract quite a bit of negative attention.

#9: “We Can’t Stop”
Miley Cyrus
This video was actually voted number one on our Suggest Page, so reluctantly, we're obliged to include it on the list. Though the video is considered comical by some, it was also deemed controversial because of the way the almost-legal Miley tried to shed her good girl image by strutting and twerking around in barely-there clothing. Then there’s the drug references. A few months later, the party-loving starlet caused a stir again with her sexually charged VMA performance.

#8: “A.D.I.D.A.S.”
Korn
Since the title means “All Day I Dream About Sex,” is it all that surprising that its accompanying music video contains some eyebrow-raising content? Aside from its vulgar lyrics, the video turned the band members into car crash victims and then had their supposed corpses come alive in their body bags. To top things off, Jonathan Davis’ penchant for women’s undergarments is also revealed upon further examination.

#7: “Window Seat”
Erykah Badu
Inspired by indie rock duo Matt & Kim, Erykah Badu shot the video to this neo soul ballad without a big camera crew or any previous preparation. As liberating as it may be to strip naked while strolling through a big city for the singer; fans, critics and Dallas officials were actually less than pleased: some were offended that her character is killed on the real-life site of JFK’s assassination, and authorities actually charged her with disorderly conduct!

#6: “Prison Sex”
Tool
The stop-motion animation music video for this single off Tool’s Undertow was actually directed by the band’s own guitarist, Adam Jones. And while it went on to be nominated for an MTV VMA, its unsettling imagery involving a human-like doll and the abuse it undergoes really got under people’s skin - so much in fact that the channel quickly stopped airing “Prison Sex” altogether.

#5: “What It Feels Like for a Girl”
Madonna
Whether it’s for alleged blasphemy or graphic sexual content, Madonna’s no stranger to having her music videos banned or relegated to certain air times. With this single off Music, the Queen of Pop found herself the target of critics and censors for its shocking portrayal of violence. It seemed all the more shocking because it was carried out by a woman – Madonna herself – and was thus banned by several video stations.

#4: “All The Things She Said”
t.A.T.u.
Despite its homosexual and bisexual themes, this electronica-influenced pop song was so catchy it made it to the Billboard Hot 100 top twenty. However, the visual representation of such themes in t.A.T.u.’s corresponding music video wasn’t as well-received; in fact, the girl-on-girl kiss caused such an uproar it was banned in several countries.

#3: “Lemon Incest”
Serge Gainsbourg and Charlotte Gainsbourg
Serge Gainsbourg’s duet with his then pre-teen daughter may have been a hit on the French charts, but it still scandalized many thanks to themes that seemed to endorse incest and pedophilia. Making matters worse was its music video, which featured a bare-chested Serge in bed with Charlotte wearing only a shirt and panties - that really got people riled up.

#2: “Pussy”
Rammstein
After a three-year hiatus, Rammstein returned to music with this electronic and industrial metal track. Aside from the fact that the title alone is vulgar slang for female gentalia, the German band decided that porn was the way to go for its music video. Some of the band’s members even participated in the onscreen sex. Unsurprisingly, the video’s graphic nature caused quite a storm, although the song itself became a chart-topper in Germany.

#1: “Forced Gender Reassignment”
Cattle Decapitation
The fact this band’s music is categorized as deathgrind may already give you a clue to the types of themes they’re likely to explore. Another big clue is the title of this Monolith of Inhumanity track. Even if you’re familiar with Cattle Decapitation, we’re not sure anything could prepare for how literal its music video is: its extreme gore and sexual violence not even making it to YouTube. In short, it’s NSFW and probably NSFL!
