After one of the briefest cancellations in TV history, the “Nine-Nine” was back! Only now they were airing midseason which of course meant no Halloween episode. Instead, this season’s heist takes place during Cinco de Mayo as a distraction for Terry, who’s stressing out over his upcoming Lieutenant's exam. Sure, the premise is a tad forced, but there’s plenty to love about it too. In a bid to steal Scully’s bracelet, the gang up their hijinks with plenty of twists, turns, betrayals, and lots of hilarious quotable moments. Of course, the biggest surprise of them all is when Terry reveals that he had planted the seeds for chaos all along.

#7: Season 2 “Halloween II”

Still riding high off of the previous year’s success, Jake challenges Captain Holt to another Halloween Heist. Like Jake, we’re tricked into believing that this episode centers around the duo’s rivalry. However, we’d eventually learn that their colleagues would do anything to bring Jake’s ego down a notch. His evening becomes a nightmare as he loses Captain Holt’s watch and his own car, gets pickpocketed on a party bus, and is ultimately arrested. But we soon discover that this was all part of Captain Holt’s plan and the others were only too willing to help. This episode continued to lay the groundwork for all the crazy convoluted heist plans to follow.

#6: Season 1 “Halloween”

Every Friends Season Premiere: Ranked!

Only six episodes into their debut season, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” showed that it was full of tricks and treats. It’s a little uneven as the writers and actors are still finding their feet, but it’s a memorable episode nonetheless. The bet is created when Jake tries to prove to Captain Holt that he’s smarter than he appears. After bribing his colleagues into helping him, Jake is successful in stealing Holt’s Medal of Valor. The heist marks a pivotal moment in Jake and Holt’s chemistry and in their future partnership, due to newfound mutual respect. It also sets the foundations for what would become one of the show’s greatest recurring gags.

#5: Season 8 “The Last Day”

We couldn’t say goodbye to the “Nine-Nine” without one final heist. In this two-part finale, with Holt and Amy leaving the precinct, the slate is wiped clean in order to determine “The Grand Champion of the Nine-Nine”. This was the best send-off fans could ask for as we were reminded of some of our favorite moments and characters from the previous seasons. The schemes were more outrageous, the jokes kept on rolling and the unpredictable twists proved that even after eight years, the writers still knew how to surprise us. We wept, we cheered and we laughed as we said farewell to the “Nine-Nine” one last time.

#4: Season 7 “Valloweaster”

The writers showed that they hadn’t lost momentum by giving us another fun and fresh heist in season seven. After Cheddar, and later Scully, swallow the prize gems, the Halloween heist is postponed twice - bringing us to Easter. This time, the teams are handcuffed together to prevent any betrayals. But by now, fans knew that nothing happens by accident and there’s always someone orchestrating every step. On this occasion, it’s Rosa, and her debriefing is bigger and wackier than ever before. It proved that the writers still have plenty of good material to keep this joke running. Let’s just say that there are some unhappy bunnies, as Rosa celebrates her three-time win.

#3: Season 3 “Halloween III”

Having won one heist each, there’s everything to play for as Holt and Jake face off for the third time. On this occasion, they choose their teams, but due to suspicions over Amy’s loyalties, she’s left out. At one point, poor Amy even has them both yelling at her chest. However, she resets the rules of the game by showing everyone why you should never underestimate Amy Santiago. Using her sharp wit, competitiveness, and their assumptions, she comes out victorious. Whether or not you predicted this resolve, this episode is a whole lot of fun. The now three-way rivalry only opened the door for more hilarity in seasons to come.

#2: Season 4 “Halloween IV”

By season four, the premise of the heist was well-established and the writers needed a new way to keep us on our toes. They delivered with Amy and Rosa bonding over “The Babysitter’s Club”, the introduction of Boyle’s lookalike Bill, and of course all the other antics that ensued. But the best part is when Gina is uncovered as the heist’s mastermind. The way that her ploy is so brilliant and hilarious, it could only really come from Gina’s beautiful mind. It was the episode’s unpredictability that cemented it as one of our favorites. With that level of commitment and ingenuity, there was no more deserving winner for “Ultimate Human/Genius” than Gina Linetti.

#1: Season 5 “HalloVeen”

Just when we thought that these heists might become predictable, the writers threw us another curveball. This one is rife with betrayal, deceit, the return of Bill, a Cheddar imposter, and this iconic quote from Captain Holt. It’s almost as if they tried to lead us down several paths just to suddenly steer us drastically off course. We all knew that Jake and Amy were meant to be, but this moment still took us all, Amy included, by surprise. We laughed, we teared up and we were most definitely treated to the unexpected. Perhaps this heist has no official champion, but this ending is a winner in our eyes.
