Little to lazy to sit through these games? Sit back. We got you. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we're counting down our picks for the Top 10 Anime Based on Video Games.

For this list, we're looking at Anime titles created in the wake of successful video game franchises. The games must have come first in order for a title to make it on this list, not the other way around.

#10: “Valkyria Chronicles” (2009-11)

Based on the action RPG by Sega, this anime adapts the first tale in the series. When the town of Bruhl finds itself under siege by Imperial forces, three young villagers: Welkin, Alicia and Isara, manage to escape and join up with the Gallian Militia to take the fight to the enemy. While some fresh characters and concepts might pop up here and there, that just adds to the uniqueness of this adaptation. It wont be long before you’re in love with the underdogs of squad 7.

#9: “Inazuma Eleven” (2008-14)

Inazuma Eleven follows Edou Mamoru, a goal keeper who sets out to resurrect his schools Football Club. Following in the Sports RPG’s footsteps, Inazuma Eleven keeps the action on the field over the top and lightning fast. Sports Anime have seen resurgence in the last few years and Inazuma Eleven is a welcome addition to that growing sub genre. Just be sure to leave the fire soccer balls to the professionals, don’t try those at home kids.

#8: “.hack//Sign” (2002)

Top 10 Video Games Based On Anime And Manga

Tsukasa is a lonely mage wandering the gaming universe known as “The World”. Unlike every other player in the game, Tsukasa is unable to log out, leaving them trapped until the mystery can be solved. While the Anime sports several action scenes reminiscent of old school RPGs, .hack//Sign’s main draw is its deep, existential storyline and character exploration. It also boasts an awesome soundtrack, produced by the unparalleled Yuki Kaijura. Pop this Anime in and prepare for one fascinating trip down the .hack rabbit hole.

#7: “Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV” (2016)

Top 10 Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Moments (Ft. Todd Haberkorn!)

With his wedding fast approaching, Prince Noctis Lucius Caleum sets off on one last road trip with his best friends: Gladio, Ignis and Prompto. Brotherhood both sets the stage for the Final Fantasy XV game and explores the backstories of Noctis’ band of brothers. While there have been other Final Fantasy Anime before it, Brotherhood is a cut above the rest complete with stylish action sequences and a deep exploration of the central bonds of the game, all without spoiling too much of what’s to come.

#6: “Danganronpa: The Animation” (2013)

Welcome to the worst year of high school you’ll ever have in your life. At Hope’s Peak Academy, the key to graduation is simple: kill a student and get away with murder. Oh and this little competition is supervised by the remote control bear from hell. It’s a twisted concept for sure. Maybe that’s why fans are so drawn to this Anime inspired by the hand held visual novel series. Who will turn on who? What is the academy’s secret? How can a teddy bear be so damn terrifying? Only one way to find out.

#5: “God Eater” (2015-16)

Top 10 Anime Not Based on Manga

In the year 2071, Japan lies in ruins thanks to the rampage of monsters known as Aragami. With humanity on its last legs, a new group of warriors rises to challenge these beasts. Using custom made weapons known as God Arcs, the God Eaters of the Fenrir organization stand ready to unleash all manner of payback against the wicked beasts. Boasting some incredible visuals, the work of Studio Ufotable, God Eater is something to behold, especially in the action department.

#4: “Pokemon” (1997-)

Top 10 Best Pokemon League Battles From The Anime

We doubt this one even needs an introduction. But just incase… the Pokemon Anime follows Ash Ketchum as travels the world with his trusted Pikachu, seeking to become a Pokemon Master. Whenever a new generation of games brings over a new line up of Pokemon, best believe Ash is on the case to catch maybe 2 or 3 of them and then lose a tournament or something. The hardly aging hero continues to let us down in the Pokémon-master department but we’d be lying if we said his adventures with Pikachu and the gang aren’t fun.

#3: “Persona 4 The Animation” (2011-12)

Based on the mega hit RPG, Persona 4 follows Yu Narukami, who transfers to a town where some downright strange things are happening. The show follows its source material quite well – despite its slightly rushed pace. Hell, they even brought back the voice original voice actors and soundtrack. Should you choose to watch this series, be prepared to be sucked into a world of murder, mystery, waifus and the bonds of friendship.

#2: “Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works” (2014-15)

While this isn’t the first attempt to bring the Fate/Stay Night visual novel to the world of Anime, its certainly the best. Shiro Emiya and Rin Tohsaka team up in the Holy Grail War, a seven-mage/seven servant battle royale for the legendary artifact. It’s easy to botch a fate adaptation, but this series complete with its stunning visuals and epic soundtrack certainly does the series justice. This is the series’ installment everyone needs to see. Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few Honorable Mentions: “Ace Attorney” (2016) “Mega Man: NT Warrior” (2002-06) “Yokai-Watch!” (2014-)

#1: “Steins;Gate” (2011)

What happens when you mix a mad scientist, a beautiful prodigy and a microwave that can nearly nuke bananas? Well, you only scratch the surface of the wide world of Steins;Gate. Based on the visual novel of the same name, the Anime follows Rintaro Okabe as he tries to save the world from destruction via time travel. The series features a lovable cast of characters and isn’t afraid to put them through pure tragedy as Okabe watches in horror. This is a thinking mans Anime, that’s for sure.
