#10: “Madden NFL 19”
Release Date: August 10, 2018

Another year, another “Madden NFL” game. While Electronic Arts has been at the center of numerous controversies as of late, their EA Sports label has managed to maintain a respectable level of quality with this long-running football series. “Madden NFL 19” marks the franchise’s 30th anniversary and also introduces real player motion, which puts an emphasis on more realistic animation and movements. This allows for a more engaging experience that makes the player feel as if they’re really controlling Terrell Owens and others.

#9: “Slender Man”
Release Date: August 24, 2018 [U.S.]

Also in:

Top 5 Creepiest Things About the Slender Man Myth

Slender Man has developed into a pop culture icon since his inception in 2009 and this film adaptation is being built up as the most ambitious interpretation of the urban legend yet. Between “It” and “Hereditary,” we seem to be in a golden age of horror movies. Of course, the genre hasn’t been without a few stinkers like “Truth or Dare” and “Winchester.” Even if “Slender Man” doesn’t falls into the former group of game-changers, hopefully the classic creepypasta can serve up some legitimate scares.

#8: “The Spy Who Dumped Me”
Release Date: August 3, 2018 [U.S.]

Also in:

Top 10 Anticipated Releases of December 2018

A play on the classic James Bond film, “The Spy Who Loved Me,” this action comedy centers on a woman who learns her ex-boyfriend is a CIA agent. Along with her best friend, she gets unexpectedly mixed up in the world of international mystery and international misery. Mila Kunis is an always-reliable comedic actress while Kate McKinnon has distinguished herself as an “SNL” MVP. With them onboard, this could follow in the footsteps of “The Heat” and “Spy,” becoming the summer’s surprise comedy hit.

#7: “35th MTV Video Music Awards” (2018)
Release Date: August 20, 2018

In recent years, the VMA’s have developed a reputation for blowing up Twitter with flashy musical performances and unpredictable celebrity appearances. From Kayne West stealing Taylor Swift’s thunder to Miley twerking up against Robin Thicke, this award show has given us some of the most memorable pop culture moments of the 21st century. Even if you’re not up to date on today’s most popular songs, or even the nominated artists, we can always expect MTV to deliver one highly entertaining night.

#6: “Bloom” by Troye Sivan
Release Date: August 31, 2018

“Bloom” marks the second studio album from multi-talented Australian artist Troye Sivan, who regularly uses music as a tool to promote empowering LGBTQ+ themes. Sivan’s latest outing has been described as a “sex album,” as demonstrated through singles like “My My My!,” “The Good Side,” and “Dance to This,” the latter of which features Ariana Grande. The title track in particular has gained a lot of attention with its visually alluring music video and lyric video, guaranteeing we’ll take a trip into this garden.

#5: “The Meg”
Release Date: August 10, 2018 [U.S.]

Also in:

Top 10 Anticipated Releases of July 2018

July brought us Shark Week and “The Meg” will keep the jawsome festivities going well into August, pitting Jason Statham against a 75-foot-long megalodon. That might sound like the premise for a Syfy original movie, but this adaptation of Steve Alten’s novel is arriving on the big screen with a $150 million budget. Promising ridiculous action sequences, a self-aware sense of humor, and about as much subtlety as “Sharknado,” “The Meg” appears to be a guilty pleasure in the most enjoyable sense.

#4: “BlacKkKlansman”
Release Date: August 10, 2018 [U.S.]

“BlacKkKlansman” sounds like a cross between “Get Out” and that Clayton Bigsby sketch from “Chappelle’s Show.” Winning the Grand Prix at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, this dark satire is already being praised as Spike Lee’s best joint in years. The story follows an undercover brother who infiltrates the KKK and inexplicably becomes the leader of a local chapter. While sure to ignite plenty of controversy and polarizing opinions, “BlacKkKlansman” has also been praised as a funny, insightful, and relevant must-see.

#3: “Christopher Robin”
Release Date: August 3, 2018 [U.S.]

Also in:

Top 10 Awesome Christopher Walken Dance Moments

Woah, “Welcome to Pooh Corner” got a serious upgrade! Unlike the live-action remakes of “The Jungle Book” and “Beauty and the Beast,” this modern Winnie the Pooh movie tells an original story about an adult Christopher Robin reconnecting with his childhood. In addition to Ewan McGregor and Hayley Atwell, the film enlists an A-list cast to voice the Hundred Acre Wood gang, including Jim Cummings reprising his roles as Pooh and Tigger. With enough touching, nostalgic, and poignant moments, this film should taste sweeter than honey.

#2: “Jack Ryan” – Season 1
Release Date: August 31, 2018

Also in:

Top 10 Jack The Ripper Theories

Following his breakthrough role as Jim Halpert on “The Office,” John Krasinski was somewhat MIA from the spotlight. 2018 has been a comeback year for the star, however, having directed, co-written, and starred in “A Quiet Place” alongside his real-life wife Emily Blunt. Now Krasiniski will take center stage in “Jack Ryan,” which premiered at the 58th Annual Monte-Carlo Television Festival. Having received a straight-to-series order with a second season already given the go-ahead, Amazon appears to have a surefire hit.

Before we get to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions:

“Queen” by Nicki Minaj
Release Date: August 10, 2018

“The Walking Dead: The Final Season”
Release Date: August 14, 2018

“Better Call Saul” – Season 4
Release Date: August 6, 2018

#1: “The Happytime Murders”
Release Date: August 17, 2018 [U.S.]

Also in:

Top 10 Most Anticipated Releases of June 2018

This satire might’ve been directed by Muppet creator Jim Henson’s son, Brian Henson, but it’s not to be confused with “Sesame Street.” The film stars Melissa McCarthy as a detective who teams up a puppet P.I. to solve a string of fuzzy murders. Seriously, who knew cotton could look so graphic? Granted, we’ve seen this idea touched upon in “Avenue Q,” “Team America,” and even “Family Guy.” Nevertheless, it’s safe to assume that “The Happytime Murders” will be one of 2018’s most uproarious and bizarre comedies.
