For this list, we've selected the most powerful useable items and power-ups in the entire Smash Bros. franchise. Since professional tournaments don't use items because of their random nature we're mostly ranking these based on how fun they are to use against your friends.

Top 10 Worst Super Smash Bros Items

They’re unpredictable, game changing, and loads of fun to use. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be counting down the Top 10 Smash Bros. Items. For this list, we’ve selected the most powerful useable items and power-ups in the entire Smash Bros. franchise. Since professional tournaments don’t use items because of their random nature we’re mostly ranking these based on how fun they are to use against your friends.

#10: Beam Sword

Any weapon that draws inspiration from the legendary “Star Wars” lightsaber is automatically bad-ass. The beam sword has been around since the original “Smash Bros.” and provides players with a speedy and powerful melee weapon that can quickly rack up damage. It’s especially cool when you pick up the Beam Sword while using a sword-wielding character, like Link or Marth, because they’ll duel-wield swords for double the devastation.

#9: Ray Gun

The Complete History of Super Smash Bros.

The ray gun fires quick bursts of green plasma that will shock your opponent while doing a modest amount of damage. Though not as powerful as some other weaponry, the Ray Gun’s speed and versatility can make it a pretty handy firearm. It can be devastating if you start blasting your opponent with the ray gun while they attempt to jump back onto the stage. Whatever you do, don’t let a computer-controlled opponent get their hands on a ray gun, because they always know how to capitalize on it.

#8: Heart Container

The 10 BEST Weapons In Atomic Heart

The Heart Container is your reward for beating a boss in the “Legend of Zelda” series, but in Smash Bros, it acts as a powerful health recovery item. Whenever a heart container descends onto the stage, you can expect a mad scramble as every player tries to reduce 100% of their damage. This item is sometimes seen as being unfair, especially if you’re playing as a slow character, so naturally it helps to keep a keen eye out.

#7: Warp Star

Originating in the “Kirby” franchise, the Warp Star allows Kirby to quickly zoom around the galaxy. In “Smash Bros.” the Warp Star is a high-risk, high-reward item that sends your character blasting into the sky, then crashing back down onto the stage. Anyone caught in the landing radius is obliterated by the exploding star, and often sent careening to their doom. Just steer it carefully or else you could end up doing this. (show Link Warpstarring off the stage)

#6: Super Scope

Hands-On w/ the New Characters! - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The Super Scope was a light-gun peripheral for the Super Nintendo used in a limited number of first-person and on-rails shooting games. Though relatively obscure, the Super Scope has once again gained popularity as an iconic item in the “Smash Bros.” series. It’s quite a versatile gun which can either shoot short, rapid bursts of energy, or be charged up to release one huge blast that will almost certainly send opposing players flying into the abyss.

#5: Home Run Bat

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Review

Probably the most powerful close-range weapon in the “Smash Bros.” universe, the Home Run Bat makes up for its limited range with the ability to one-hit-KO most adversaries. One of the most feared items in the Smash Bros series, if your adversary gets their hands on one of these bad boys, you should probably start running the other way. In the games’ “home run contest” sub-mode, you can practice that baseball swing against a sandbag in order to get you prepped for game time. Batter up!

#4: Smash Ball

Top 10 Biggest Changes In Super Smash Bros Ultimate

The Smash Ball made its debut in “Super Smash Bros. Brawl” for the Wii, totally changing the dynamics of matches by introducing “final smash” attacks for each character. When the Smash Ball appears, it hovers erratically around the stage and characters must deal damage to it until it explodes. The character who destroys it gains access to their game-changing finishing move, which varies wildly from fighter to fighter. Mario, for example, unleashes a screen-clearing mega fireball. Other characters like Bowser for example transform into his unstoppable form Giga-Bowser for a brief amount of time.

#3: Hammer

The hammer and its bigger, more powerful brother, the Golden Hammer, are items to be feared in “Smash Bros.” Picking up the hammer sends you into a crazed smashing frenzy for several seconds. If you run into an opponent while controlling the hammer, they’re toast. There are some flaws, however – while toting the hammer, your ability to jump and move is impaired, and there’s always the chance that the hammerhead will go flying off the handle, leaving you completely prone to attack as you wave a harmless wooden stick around.

#2: Assist Trophy

The Pokeball item was so popular in earlier “Smash Bros.” games that Nintendo decided to include the assist trophy in ‘Brawl.’ The Assist Trophy works quite similarly to the PokeBall, except, rather than a Pokémon, it releases a random character from one of Nintendo’s many franchises. The abilities and utility of the released character vary widely, but you can be sure that, no matter who turns up, something crazy’s going to happen. That’s not to say all assist trophies are that useful. We’re looking at you, NINTENDOG. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

#1: Poke ball

One of the most popular modern Nintendo franchises also gave us probably the most popular item in the “Smash Bros.” series. The thing that makes the Pokeball so exciting is the fact that you never know exactly what you’re going to get. You might unleash a powerful Snorlax, the mysterious Mew, or perhaps, or….a completely harmless Goldeen to flop around the stage pointlessly. Also awesome: in each new “Smash Bros.” game, the available Pokémon are updated to coincide with the recent additions to their franchise. Gotta catch ‘em all! Agree with our list? Did we forget any awesome “Smash Bros” items? For more smashing top 10s published daily, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.
