Top 10 Biggest Downgrades In Anime

Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Biggest Simps In Anime. For this list, we’ll be looking at the characters in anime who, for some reason or another, have the traits often founds in simps, i.e those guys and girls that put the opposing gender on a pedestal and will go to great lengths to grovel and worship them, even at the cost of their own self-respect and dignity.

#10: The Osomatsu Brothers

Top 20 Best Anime Parody Scenes

“Mr Osomatsu” (2015-) To lose their v-cards, there truly is no bridge these sextuplets will not cross. Their biggest offense comes in the form of their neighbour Totoko; a failing idol singer who dresses up as a fish on stage…and is just a terrible person overall, eager to land herself a rich husband, but for now won’t hesitate to take the money of the eager brothers every chance she gets. Despite this, Osomatsu and the rest are all too eager to attend her every gig, throw their minuscule wallets at her, and go to any length to get her attention. Even by their usual standards, this is just sad.

#9: Juvia

“Fairy Tail” (2009-19) Is it possible for someone made of water to be this thirsty? Well, if you’re Juvia, the desire to get a heaping helping of the shirtless wonder that is Gray will likely remain unquenched for eternity. After saving her, the former enforcer of Phantom Lord found herself utterly enraptured with the ice user, doing everything she could to earn his attention, despite often being met with frequent rejections. She was even willing to die if it meant sparing his life at one point. At least she got a happy ending out of it, since her relentless simping and devotion finally thawed Gray’s icy shell. Good on you Juvia, you earned that!

#8: Futoshi

“Darling in the Franxx” (2018) He’s a big teddy bear with a heart to match, and all he wanted was to remain partners with his beloved Kokoro. It was earnest enough, and given how the world had warped the mindsets of its pilots, typical romance was never going to be on the table, so we couldn’t exactly call Futoshi’s antics cringe…at least until Kokoro pulled a massive U-turn by immediately switching partners. From there, things just spring boarded, with Kokoro and Mitsuru getting together, getting married and pushing out a kid all in record time. And what did Futoshi do? Ordained their damn wedding. oof.

#7: Zenitsu

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” (2019) He’s so desperate to get his sword sheathed he’s willing to get on his knees and bawl his eyes out to any women within the immediate vicinity. Yeah, Tanjiro’s expression speaks volumes. While his introduction wasn’t the greatest, we’ve all come to love Zenitsu, especially when he turns himself into a living lightning bolt. Sadly, his obsession with the female demographic hasn’t wavered, to the point where he got so irate that his buddies were training with female members of the Demon Slayer Corp that he pretty much snapped.

#6: Slaine

“Aldnoah.Zero” (2014-15) Look, if the princess of your dreams wants to get cozy with the male equivalent of a stale piece of white bread, that’s her business. Take a step back, excel in your career as a bloodthirsty space count, and find yourself a co-pilot who appreciates you for you. Alas, Slaine did none of this, with his obsession with Princess Asseylum not only severely damaging his character, but also led to him getting tortured and imprisoned. When the highlight of your day is having a one-sided conversation with a comatose girl floating in a healing chamber with a bullet in her head…yeah, you’ve got issues.

#5: Misa

“Death Note” (2006-07) While her obsession with Light was truly a tragic one born of madness and manipulation, Misa Misa nonetheless became a willing plaything to the God of the New World, happy to kill and do whatever he commanded, purely to retain the title of being his girlfriend. Of course, even that was a lie, since the apple of her eye cheated on her and planned to replace her with a more capable partner. Did she care? Of course not. In her eyes, Kira could do no wrong. A shame really, since L was obviously available! Missed opportunity Misa.

#4: Sanji

Top 10 Sanji Fights in One Piece

“One Piece” (1999-) There is a thin line between chivalrous and simping, and unfortunately our boy falls hard into the latter. Not that it really hurts our appreciation or enthusiasm given his amazing characterisation, it’s just sad that after seeing how there are many, many, many female pirates out there causing so much chaos and pain, you’d think he’d be willing to ease up on that “no kicking women” creed just a tad. At least make an exception for Big Mom and her daughters of death. Hopefully after the Pudding incident he’s learned his lesson and isn’t as trusting of every pretty face he meets.

#3: Kazuya

“Rent-a-Girlfriend” (2020) Feast your eyes, for with time and training, the lost soul you see before you could potentially ascend to an even higher level of simping, overtaking all others as the Lord of Simps, a Simp Sovereign, to which all will look up in horror and second hand embarrassment. But for now – he’s just an idiot who in his lowest moment rented a temporary girlfriend to feel better after getting dumped…only to lash out at her because of his zero self-esteem…and then fall for her for real…only to then be easily duped into getting intimate with his heartless ex. Seriously, this dude has shelled out a fortune just for a girl to acknowledge his existence.

#2: Subaru

“Re;Zero – Starting Life in Another World” (2016-) Could this have anything to do with the fact that he threw away a chance at happiness with an adorable oni to pursue a half-elf who had already given up on him? Probably. While we have nothing but sympathy for Subaru given the horrific circumstances he was put in, he didn’t exactly make things easy for himself with his single-minded pursuit of Emilia’s thighs. Trying to save her from a rabble of thugs? Noble and heroic. Challenging a knight to a battle due to a side remark he made against Emilia, despite the fact he has zero idea about the fantasy world’s political discourse? Yeah, you’re asking for trouble.

#1: Bam

Also in:

Top 10 Biggest Differences in Scott Pilgrim Anime

“Tower of God” (2020) We need to preface this – we like Bam, it makes sense that since Rachel was all he had ever known, she would be his world. He’s not simping on her out of some desperate craving, but rather because she was the one constant in his life. It makes sense his one goal would be to find and reunite with her, even if she was acting shady, ignoring him at every turn, and causing his bros to worry for his safety. And yet, it was his unwavering dedication that made him unable to see just how duplicitous she truly was, concluding with her pushing him to his supposed death, and hopefully opening his eyes in the process!
