Take the best elements from Silent Hill and Resident Evil, and you have The Evil Within. It's from Shinji Mikami, after all; the genius behind Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4. The Evil Within is a compelling horror gaming experience that combines scares, thrills, and action at just the right pace. Some of the monsters make you freeze in terror, and the audio cues for certain enemy types will make your bones shiver in fright. As a player, you're always on edge, and there are plenty of moments where all you can do is run, which makes the moments where you get to blast something's head off with a shotgun tremendously satisfying.

Watch Dogs got a bad wrap at launch, mostly because the graphics didn't seem to match up with what we were seeing at E3. But don't let that deter you. There is so much content in Watch Dogs that'll have you playing for hours and hours. Your hacking abilities add enough variants to the way combat and chase sequences pan out, so they never get stale, whether you're hacking into someone's grenade and remote detonating it, or changing traffic lights to cause an accident. You also have choices in the way you tackle certain situations. You can go in silently, or guns blazing. If you get your fill of the combat, there are also many environmental puzzles to keep you busy. There's something for everyone.
#8: “Dying Light” (2015)
Zombies; check. Open world; check. Parkour; check. Dying Light takes the best parts of Dead Island and other popular Zombie titles, improves mobility, weapons, visuals and storytelling to provide one of the most satisfying zombie-slaying experiences in modern gaming. It makes sure to keep you on your toes at all times, and when you think you're overpowered, night comes with its creatures to keep you in check. The first-person perspective allows for full immersion, and the escape sequences get your adrenaline pumping. Running from the dead has never been so fun.
#7: “Raiden V” (2014)
The Raiden series has been around for over two decades now, and the tried and true formula has only improved over the years. There is a multitude of difficulties, which adheres to any type of player, making the game extremely accessible. Trying to get the best score is immensely addictive, and the unique weapons and diverse areas change it up enough to keep you coming back. While the game does offer unlimited continues, the difficulty comes in trying to reach the highest score possible, and that means your reaction time has to be almost perfect. Better start practicing!
#6: “Voodoo Vince Remastered” (2017)
There's nothing like that rush of nostalgia whenever an old game gets remastered. Take Voodoo Vince, for example, which is back after fourteen years, and we couldn't be happier. While the gameplay offers little more than your run-of-the-mill platformer, it shines with wacky personality, style, and puzzle solving. Being a voodoo doll, a lot of the ways you can hurt enemies is by hurting yourself, which we don't see very often in games. If you missed out on Vince the first time around, Voodoo Vince Remastered is a great chance to experience this weird little platformer for yourself.

Not only is Mad Max one of the best film to game adaptations in a long time, but it's also a tremendous open world experience, set in a highly detailed post-apocalyptic wasteland. It combines vehicular based combat with hand-to-hand combat, and both are equally polished and extremely fun. It's immensely satisfying upgrading your car, the Magnum Opus, to utterly destroy your foes. The quality of the sound design catches you by surprise, and the first time you hear a storm approaching, you're left looking at the screen in awe when it hits, before you remember you need to find cover. Learning boss maneuvers and eventually emerging victorious is one hell of a rewarding experience.
#4: “Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited” (2015) Fans of the Elder Scrolls series, or just MMORPG's in general, need to give this game another chance. The One Tamriel update changed The Elder Scrolls Online for the better in a number of ways, allowing players to traverse the many provinces from the start of the game. The game is brimming with content, and features similarities to the streamlined UI seen in Skyrim. Add to that the recent Morrowind expansion that let's you revisit the island of Vvanderfell from The Elder Scrolls III, and you've got a lot of reasons to explore Tamriel.
#3: “Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2” (2015)
It's hard not to love the colorful aesthetic of Plants vs. Zombies, and Garden Warfare 2 improves on its predecessor in every way. With a ton of characters and minigames, you'll find yourself always coming back, and the team-based strategy required to win in matches is incredibly rewarding. There are a ton of modes, so you'll be hard-pressed not finding at least one to enjoy, and all of the classes have creative abilities that can destroy your foes. Oh, and the game offers split-screen co-op. We don't see that very often these days.

There's a reason it's got millions of players worldwide. The triple A quality visuals and sound design, and fast and fluid combat are completely immersive. There is a ton of gear and customization options to choose from, and with the generous pay model, it can all pretty much be acquired without paying a cent, thanks to the trading system. Ahh, yes. There's nothing like putting a cone on a zombie's head and hitting him with a broom. Dead Rising 3 offers a staggering amount of weapon and costume varieties, and enough zombies to test them out on. Trekking from one end of the map to the other is never a chore, as fighting through the hordes of undead somehow never gets boring. There are hundreds of them on screen at a time, and the open-ended gameplay lets you experience the game the way you want. Take the apocalypse seriously and eliminate the threats efficiently, or put on a Mexican wrestler outfit and body slam them? The choice is yours.
