#10: “Touch” feat. Paul Williams

Touch The Buffalo - Heart Is For (Official Video)

Random Access Memories (2013) Featuring lyrics written and recorded by American singer Paul Williams, “Touch” makes this list for its ability to effortlessly evoke different time periods. Found at the center of Random Access Memories, the complex 8-minute-plus song seems to pay tribute to musical films thanks to its mix of diverse styles. In short, it’s a sonic journey with Daft Punk’s signature all over it and one of the highlights of their fourth record.

#9: “Technologic”

Human After All (2005) Human After All’s second single may feature the word “it” 350 times, but somehow we don’t mind “it” just one bit: while an electronic voice gives orders, a catchy house and techno-influenced beat keeps us captivated. “Technologic” has also made several multiple pop culture appearances and been sampled by other artists.

#8: “Face to Face” Discovery (2001)

Some might wonder why this incredibly good French house track appears so close to the end of Discovery. Perhaps it’s because Daft Punk hopes you’ll make it to the end and be pleasantly surprised by this sonic delight. Co-written, co-produced and sung by Todd Edwards, “Face to Face” is notable for its rhythm, sampling and ultramodern sound.

#7: “Contact” Random Access Memories (2013)

As the album’s closer, “Contact” is the only song off Random Access Memories with samples. Produced with DJ Falcon, the six-and-half-minute number stands out for its use of NASA mission recordings. But that’s not all: it’s also a noisy, layered tune that’s boosted by synthesizers, which give it a very “spacey” feel.

#6: “Digital Love” Discovery (2001)

Daft Punk crafted this five-minute piece by mixing disco house, synthpop, eurofunk and electronic rock. Partially inspired by Supertramp, “Digital Love” has the duo performing their own vocals but also stands out because of its music sequencer-enhanced solo. Simply put, the club-banger just makes you want to “come a little closer as they jam.”

#5: “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” Discovery (2001)

This song from Discovery proves that when it comes to house music, Daft Punk really knows how to make things “harder, better, faster, stronger.” With the duo’s electronically enhanced vocals, cymbals that keep the beat, and an Edwin Birdsong sample, it’s one of the album’s most memorable tracks. Though it found even more popularity thanks to Kanye West’s “Stronger,” it’s Daft Punk’s solo live version that won them a Grammy in 2009.

#4: “Get Lucky” feat. Pharrell Williams Random Access Memories (2013)

Random Access Memories came along eight years after Human After All, and “Get Lucky” was the album’s highly anticipated first single. Co-written with Nile Rodgers, the disco and funk-infused track contained vocals by R&B and soul artist Pharrell Williams. It was so good that it had both critics and fans feeling lucky that Daft Punk was finally back.

#3: “Around the World” Homework (1997)

Though the song’s only lyrics are the words in its title, this French and disco house single off Homework found a spot on dance charts and dance floors around the world. Thanks to its earworm-like qualities, an unforgettable bass line and the use of just a few instruments, “Around the World” implanted itself into our brains. It was accompanied by a highly choreographed and colorful Michel Gondry-directed music video that perfectly matched the song’s simplicity and repetitive nature.

#2: “One More Time” Discovery (2001)

There’s just something about Discovery’s first single that makes us want to “celebrate and dance so free”: with Romanthony’s autotuned vocals, a funky beat, and overall happy vibe, the French and disco house track is often considered one of the best dance songs ever. It also topped dance charts around the globe and makes us “feel so free” we just can’t help listening to it “one more time.”

Honorable Mentions

“Derezzed,” Tron: Legacy (2010) “Alive,” Homework (1997) “Robot Rock,” Human After All (2005) “Aerodynamic,” Discovery (2001)

This instrumental single off Daft Punk’s debut blends acid house and alternative dance elements into what’s now considered one of the staples of ‘90s house. With its rocking drums, electro synthesizers and a striking riff, “Da Funk” was the duo’s first chart-topper on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart.
