Top 10 Cam Moments from Modern Family

Here comes treble. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Cam Moments from Modern Family.

For this list, we’ll be looking at Cameron Tucker’s most memorable moments from the mockumentary family sitcom.

#10: Cam Interrogates His Students
“New Kids on the Block”

Also in:

The Funniest Moment From Every Season of Modern Family

Messing with a person's clown figurines is just asking for trouble. Even after 11 seasons, Cam could still bring the laughs along with a healthy dose of drama, with Mitchell being the one to suffer this time. Staging an elaborate ruse to push Mitch to admit he threw away his husband's hobo clown figurine, Cam got the opportunity to flex his acting chops while interrogating some wrongly accused students. Loud, dynamic, manipulative, and slightly terrifying, Cam manages to show-off all the traits that made him such a fun character on "Modern Family."

#9: Cam on Antibiotics
“Lake Life”

Also in:

Top 10 Cam & Mitchell Moments on Modern Family

"Modern Family" could always rely on Cam and Gloria's unique dynamic to deliver comedy gold. During a family trip to a lake, Cam has to avoid the sun at all costs due to being on antibiotics. Naturally, this involves putting on all the sunscreen in the known universe, dressing like a ghost, and going on an impromptu boat ride on the lake with Gloria. Three of Cam's greatest traits are his confidence, fashion sense, and capacity for quick-thinking; qualities that are on full display for everyone to see throughout these scenes.

#8: Cam’s Mother’s Day
“Mother’s Day”

Also in:

Top 10 Funniest Moments on Modern Family

While known to occasionally overreact, Cam's outbursts tend to be quite understandable. Few instances showcase this better than when Cam is less than thrilled to be elected as his family's mom on Mother's Day, a role welcomed by the character about as openly as a football to the face. There are few things that Cam hates more than having his masculinity questioned or being labeled by other people, and Mother's Day proved to be an especially challenging time for the character. Cameron Tucker is Cameron Tucker and he cannot be pigeonholed into any one bracket.

#7: Cam Flirts with a Woman in a Bar
"Treehouse"

Also in:

Top 10 Most Relatable Modern Family Moments

Cam is awesome at a lot of things, but picking up women at a bar is slightly out of his area of expertise. That does not discourage Cam from making a bet with Mitchell to see whether he can flirt his way to a woman's phone number - a charade that involves a fake friendship, a coma, and like all of the hand gestures in the world. Leslie Mann's Katie proves to be the perfect foil for Cam, as the two show great chemistry in their handful of scenes. Even when pretending to be someone else, Cam's true self cannot help but shine through.

#6: Cam Keeps on Accidentally Injuring Lily
"Party Crasher"

Also in:

Unscripted Modern Family Moments That Were Kept in the Show

In the earlier seasons, Cameron can be a touch insecure when it comes to being Lily's father. As he cannot help but love completely and obsessively, Cam overcompensates when Lily asks for Mitchell's hand in marriage. Unfortunately for everyone involved - but mostly Lily - Cam's demonstrations of affection end up backfiring to hilarious results. Even when accidentally injuring his daughter, Cam does nothing halfheartedly, as Lily is unwittingly put through the wringer. While the accidents are funny on their own, Cam's bewilderment about the entire ordeal is what sells this storyline's comedic brilliance.

#5: Cam’s First Day as a Music Teacher
"The Butler's Escape"

Also in:

Top 10 Most Awkward Modern Family Moments

"Modern Family" didn’t rely too heavily on cringe humor… and maybe that was because there was simply no way to outdo Cameron's painful first day as a music teacher. As always, Cam approached the job with a lot of passion and a touch of overconfidence, two traits that were quickly crushed by a class of apathetic middle schoolers. Hilarious but kind of sad at the same time, this terrible teaching debut captures the character at his most human, especially when a dejected Cam tries to protect his shattered pride later on in the episode.

#4: Cam Ponders Whether Phil Is Sexy
"The Day We Almost Died"

Also in:

Top 10 Times Phil Dunphy was the Best Character on Modern Family

Cam can be relied upon to ask the truly difficult questions. Besides just generally being the best, Phil is a committed father, a loving husband, a suave businessman, and a ninja in a blazer; however, only Cam dared to wonder whether Phil is sexy. In an expertly paced sequence that builds and builds towards a magnificent punchline, Phil's newfound confidence is paired with a flustered Cam who is forced to question everything he has ever believed in. Cam and Phil rarely interacted in "Modern Family," and this sequence suggests that might have been a mistake.

#3: Fizbo to the Rescue
"Fizbo"

Fizbo is Cam's clown persona that exists solely to bring happiness into the lives of everyone who’s not named Mitchell. Be it an intense encounter with a runaway scorpion or a rekindling of Phil's extreme fear of clowns, Fizbo's debut episode is a laugh riot, but the clown's best moment is more cool than funny. After stepping up to defend Mitchell at a gas station, Fizbo shows that he is a clown who can get serious if the situation calls for it. If there is one thing Cam will not stand for, it is a threat to his family.

#2: Cam Panics When Lily Is Locked in a Car
"Run for Your Wife"

Also in:

Top 10 Times Lily was a Savage on Modern Family

After adopting Lily, Cam and Mitch go through some natural growing pains as new parents. Mistakes inadvertently happen, but it is how the pair react to such challenges that truly bring the chuckles. When Mitch accidentally locks baby Lily in the car, the fathers exercise two widely different methods to find a solution. While Mitch calls Emergency Assistance, a hysterical Cam prepares to smash open a path to Lily. Losing Lily becomes something of a tradition for Cam and Mitch, but the first time is not only the most relatable but also the funniest.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Cam in Costco - "Come Fly with Me"
Because Cam Is “Like Costco” & Knows Exactly How to Express It

Fizbo vs. Fizbeau - "Paris"
Because Cam Went All the Way to Paris Just to End Up Fighting a Clown

Cam as a Director - "The Musical Man"
Because Cam Lets a Middle School Spring Musical Go to His Head & It Is Glorious

Cam Gives Manny Some Dating Advice - "The One That Got Away"
Because Cam Can Always Make a Situation Worse

Cam Goes on a Juice Fast - "Phil on Wire"
Because Cam Is A Little Crankier Than Usual While on a Juice Fast

#1: Stella!
"Door to Door"

Cam is a born performer. Whether competing at the 1974 Jasper County Fair, entertaining kids as a clown, or searching for Jay's lost dog, Cam brings an element of showmanship and theatrics to everything. After his sidewalk recreation of "A Streetcar Named Desire," Cam and Gloria find Stella with a girl who tries to scream to avoid giving the dog up. Unfortunately for the kid, Cam is not the type to back down from a challenge. Unapologetically brazen, Cam's "Stella" performance is the type of stuff that comedy legends are made of.
