Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Games We Want To See At E3 2021. For this list, we’ll be looking at games that could make an appearance at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. Whether it’s a trailer, an announcement, or simply confirmation that they’re still in development, these games are at the top of our wish list. What game do you want to see at E3 2021? #10: “Halo Infinite” (2021)

Ever since the original masterpiece launched with the first Xbox, “Halo” has dominated as Microsoft’s flagship franchise. Yet, it’s been almost six years since we’ve seen a main game installment. Although Microsoft hoped that “Halo Infinite” would be another launch title for the Xbox Series X/S, it was postponed because of the pandemic. While we got to see some gameplay after E3 2020’s cancellation, the reception was mixed mainly due to the graphics. With “Infinite” aiming for a late-2021 release, it’ll almost certainly be present at this year’s E3. This will be the best opportunity for 343 Industries and Microsoft to defuse any skepticism. For those still on the fence about buying a current-gen Xbox, “Infinite’s” E3 presentation will surely be a deciding factor.
#9: New Sonic Game

With his feature film earning serious bank and an animated Netflix series in development, Sonic is just one hit game away from making a full-blown comeback. Since Sega will be at E3 2021 and this year marks Sonic’s 30th anniversary, announcing a new game sounds appropriate. What kind of “Sonic” game, though? The retro blast “Sonic Mania” was the franchise’s best outing in years, but we’re still waiting for a sequel. If Sega really wants to try their hand at another 3D platformer, we wouldn’t say no to “Sonic Generations 2” or “Sonic Adventure 3.” Being such a landmark year, Sega could announce multiple Sonic games, but that might be wishful thinking. In any case, Sega needs to go big for the Blue Blur.
#8: “Starfield” (TBA)

While we could get some more info about “The Elder Scrolls VI” at E3 2021, Bethesda will likely dedicate most of their presentation to “Starfield.” After more than 25 years of falling back on established IPs, Bethesda is hoping to launch a new franchise with this single-player sci-fi RPG. Bethesda has wanted to make “Starfield” for almost a decade, but development didn’t truly get off the ground until “Fallout 4” was done. Like “Elder Scrolls VI,” Bethesda hasn’t revealed a ton about “Starfield” since its E3 2018 teaser. With a late 2021 or early 2022 release on the table, though, now’s the time to give us a gameplay and/or cinematic trailer. Maybe even have Elon Musk reveal it. He did advise on the game.

Square Enix’s presentation may offer a mix of the old and the new. On the nostalgic side, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more deats about the “Final Fantasy VII Remake” sequel. For something new, all eyes are on Square Enix to blow us away with “Final Fantasy XVI.” The game’s reveal during the PS5 Showcase last September caught us off guard for a few reasons. Not only were we unprepared for the trailer, but the emphasis on fantasy promised a bold new direction for the franchise. Producer Naoki Yoshida stated that the game’s “next big information reveal is scheduled for 2021.” E3 is the perfect platform to delve deeper into the gameplay mechanics, the darker story, and the world of Valisthea.
#6: “Pikmin 4” (TBA)

The original “Pikmin” is turning twenty in 2021. What better way to celebrate than with a trailer and release date announcement for “Pikmin 4?” During an interview at E3 2017, Shigeru Miyamoto said, “that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present.” That same year saw the release of “Hey! Pikmin,” which was cute, but not the follow-up we’ve been eagerly awaiting. Four years later, Nintendo has remained quiet about “Pikmin 4.” Of course, “Pikmin” fans aren’t unfamiliar with long waits. There was a nine-year window between the releases of “Pikmin 2” and “3.” Here’s hoping Nintendo has something massive planned for the little franchise. Until then, we’ll just have to keep playing “Pikmin 3 Deluxe” on Switch.
#5: “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” (2022)

With Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” debuting last March and James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” due in August, it only makes sense to promote this game at E3 2021. Rocksteady Studios set the gold standard for superhero games with the “Batman: Arkham” series. Although Rocksteady is finally branching out from the Dark Knight lore, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” still takes place in the Arkhamverse. Players will roam Metropolis as Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark to stop members of the Justice League under the influence of Brainiac. Fans were given a taste of what to expect at DC FanDome in 2020 and hopefully, the next trailer will reveal more of the brainwashed heroes we’ll have to take down. Wonder Woman, anyone?
#4: “Metroid Prime 4” (TBA)

Yet another anniversary, “Metroid” turns 35 this year. In an ideal world, Nintendo would commemorate this milestone with an update on “Metroid Prime 4.” We all jumped for joy when this long-awaited sequel was announced at E3 2017. While Nintendo didn’t have any footage to show at E3 2018, Nintendo America manager Bill Trinen seemed optimistic that the game would “wow people.” The following year, it was announced that Bandai Namco Studios was no longer attached and development would restart. Although this raised eyebrows among fans and shareholders, we took solace in knowing that Retro Studios would be picking up where they left off. Speaking of which, would it be too much to ask for the original “Metroid Prime” trilogy to get a Switch port?
#3: “Elden Ring” (TBA)

Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin, need we say more? With the “Souls” series, Miyazaki has given some of the modern era’s most challenging yet rewarding gaming experiences. With “Game of Thrones” and its source material, Martin created an iconic fantasy world. Between Miyazaki’s hard-hitting gameplay and Martin’s rich worldbuilding, “Elden Ring'' sounds like a match made in heaven… or maybe hell would be more accurate. FromSoftware’s latest action RPG was announced at E3 2019 and rumors suggest that publisher Bandai Namco may have more to share at E3 2021. While we’re anxious for another trailer, what we really want to know is if the game is coming to ninth gen consoles. As of now, it’s only confirmed for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

We’re sure Rockstar will have something to say about “GTA V” coming to current-gen consoles. Rockstar should know by now, though, that fans are only interested in hearing about one “GTA” game. It’s not surprising that Rockstar has remained hush-hush about “GTA VI.” After all, its predecessor is still immensely popular, becoming the second best-selling game ever. How do you top that? With any luck, Rockstart will answer that question at E3 2021. While a teaser would be a dream come true, we’d settle for official confirmation that the game is in development and a potential release window. Rockstar needs to give fans something because there are only so many rumors we can stomach. Plus, people are bound to tire of “GTA V” eventually, right? Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

#1: “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2” (TBA)

Like “Metroid,” “The Legend of Zelda” is also celebrating its 35th birthday in 2021. While Nintendo could honor the series with Switch ports for “Twilight Princess” and “Wind Waker,” gamers have been talking about “Breath of the Wild 2” since E3 2019. Producer Eiji Aonuma didn’t reveal any major details about the sequel at Nintendo Direct in February 2021. However, he mentioned that more information might come later this year. Could Aonuma be hinting at an E3 announcement? If so, what should we expect? A trailer? An official title? An idea of when we’ll be able to play it? We shouldn’t get our hopes up for a holiday 2021 release, but if Nintendo were to drop such a bombshell, they’d easily win E3.
