Their teamwork initially proves to be too much for the big amphibian to handle. Fortunately, a man-made explosion distracts the MUTOS long enough for Godzilla to launch its own fiery comeback. It was immensely satisfying to watch the underdog turn the tables on the dual beasts. After Godzilla impales the male MUTO, he brings the battle to a decisive end with one of the most epic finishing moves ever put on film. This action sequence served a great showcase of what this version of the kaiju was capable of. It definitely got us excited to see this Godzilla in more fights.

After the monsters break free, they still have to deal with one last obstacle: King Ghidorah. This leads to a battle between the three-headed monster and every other kaiju on the planet. It’s ridiculously fun to watch every beast use their individual skills to keep Ghidorah in check. And to give the villainous kaiju credit, it did a decent job fighting multiple foes But the odds are so hilariously lopsided that we actually felt a little bad for Ghidorah. Although this isn’t the most nail-biting Godzilla battle, it definitely stands out as one of the kaiju’s most entertaining bouts.

“Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" (1974) An evil metal version of our favorite scaly kaiju immediately proved itself as a serious problem during its first appearance. It nearly claimed Godzilla’s life during their first fight! In order to beat the metal monster, the heroic monster teamed up with King Caesar for a desperate rematch. Despite having the numbers advantage, the good creatures still struggled to stand up to Mechagodzilla’s seemingly unlimited arsenal of alien weapons. This narrative choice ensured that the battle was full of tension from start to finish. Godzilla ultimately had to learn how magnetism worked just to give itself an opening. When the good kaiju manages to rip off Mechagodzilla’s head, the victory truly feels earned.

But when Ghidorah arrives, Godzilla decides to put aside its bitter feelings and team up with both his foe and his friend Mothra. Despite the bad blood between the trio, they all work surprisingly well together. We even use a few fun combo attacks that completely catch Ghidorah off guard. Outside of the novelty of seeing these icons together, the battle has great action for its time period and felt incredibly heartwarming. After all, if two rival kaiju can put aside their differences and come together, maybe humanity can do the same.

Not only could Spacegodzilla deal devastating blows, but it could block or straight up ignore the hero’s mightiest attacks. It was exciting to see the iconic monster face off against a creature that could take anything the protagonist dished out. Humanity had to throw a self-destructing robot at the villain just to give Godzilla a fighting chance. Fortunately, the hero was able to dig deep and get the job done. To this day, its clash against Spacegodzilla stands as one the closest Godzilla fights put on film.
