They can’t get here soon enough. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Most Anticipated Superhero Movies. For this list, we’ll be looking at the upcoming superhero blockbusters that we are most excited about. #10: “The Incredibles 2” (2018) Pixar’s first take on the superhero family brought with it so much charm and humor that for well over a decade we have been pleading for a sequel to be made. Well, director and writer Brad Bird answered our cries, as Mr. Incredible and the rest are due to return to our screens in 2018. While we still have no idea what threat the Parr Family will be facing as of September 2017, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be both a love letter and witty twist on the classic superhero formula. As long as we get more of Samuel L. Jackson’s Frozone, then we’ll be happy. Where was his super suit, anyway? #9: “Venom” (2018) The idea of a Spider-Man Cinematic Universe that doesn’t feature Spider-Man doesn’t make much sense on paper. That being said, we’re oddly curious about what they have planned for the surprise Venom movie. What we do know as of September 2017 is it’s got Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, a supposedly John Carpenter feel to it, and the first on-screen appearance of Carnage. We can’t deny that all these components make us eager to see what kind of film they’re cooking up for the Lethal Protector. We’re giving you one more chance, Sony. Please don’t screw it up! #8: “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” (2018) “Apocalypse” may have failed to live up to many people’s expectations, but here’s hoping that by returning to the tragic tale of Jean Grey’s wicked alter ego, the franchise can find its feet again like it did with “First Class” and “Days of Future Past.” Granted, we won’t have Wolverine anymore, so capturing that epic feel may prove to be a challenge. However, if they manage to explore Jean’s struggle and keep the narrative intimate, then there’s no reason this flick can’t surpass the likes of “The Last Stand” with its take on the Phoenix. #7: “Shazam!” (2019) On the heels of “Justice League,” the DC Extended Universe solo films are going to be making quite the splash, hopefully enough to allow some of our favorite heroes to finally get the chance to shine. In regard to the World’s Mightiest Mortal, we’re all keen to see how young Billy Batson’s transformation into a divine-wielding adult turns out. Concrete details are still up in the air on this one as of late 2017, but we believe that Shazam can bring a certain Boy Scout charm to this franchise, compensating for the Man of Steel’s dark turn. #6: “Invincible” (TBC) Announced only in April 2017, it turns out that the likes of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are planning on adapting the highly successful superhero comic series created by man who gave us “The Walking Dead.” What to expect? Well, since the comic focuses on a teenager whose father happens to be part of a super-powered alien race, we’re guessing gratuitous amounts of violence, as well as a more mature look at what being a godly individual would be like in the real world. Throw in Rogen’s penchant for dark humor, and you can sign us up! #5: “Captain Marvel” (2019) She won’t be making her appearance until after Thanos has launched his attack on Earth in 2018, but we couldn’t be happier that Carol Danvers is finally getting her due. As quite possibly one of the most powerful characters in all of Marvel, this interstellar heroine may be late to the game, but she’ll still likely serve as a crucial component in the final stages of the Infinity War. Her potential as a female icon is also pretty high, so needless to say there is a lot riding on this one, but we’re pretty sure Miss Danvers has it covered, especially with Oscar-winner Brie Larson in the role. #4: “Black Panther” (2018) All hail the king. Ever since his debut in “Civil War,” T’Challa has sent the fan community into a frenzy, all eager to see the Ruler of Wakanda make a return. From the looks of the trailer, the Panther is getting the royal treatment. The futuristic and unique culture of Wakanda looks incredible. The hints towards T’Challa facing international troubles give us hope that the political side of things will give the film its own unique identity. We even get the return of Andy Serkis as the villainous Klaue. As of September 2017, we’ve only been given a teaser, but already Marvel’s cat has our tongue. #3: “The Batman” (TBC) In spite of past missteps, we’re still looking forward to what’s been touted as Batfleck’s solo outing. Even when “Batman v Superman” hit its lowest point, Ben Affleck proved that he has the potential to give us an incredible interpretation of the Dark Knight. With the promise that this new film would play out like a neo-noir, as well as being helmed by the director who gave us the incredible “War for the Planet of the Apes,” we still think that this latest iteration of the Caped Crusader can rise above the rest. That is, if they can figure out whether Affleck will actually be in the movie or not… since there were still conflicting reports about the prospect as of September 2017. #2: “Deadpool 2” (2018) The Merc with a Mouth was finally done justice on the big screen in 2016, with Ryan Reynolds inhabiting the character so well that many moviegoers thought it was downright magical. When a sequel was announced, it’s fair to say many feared that the first film was like catching lightning in a bottle. Then the teaser dropped, and it was glorious. Next up, we found out that Josh Brolin was cast as the time-travelling mutant Cable. The fact we may be getting a buddy cop movie with Deadpool across time and space leaves little doubt that this follow-up is going to be masterful! Before we reveal our number one pick, here are a few honorable mentions. “Justice League Dark” (TBC) “Aquaman” (2018) “Ant-Man and the Wasp” (2018) #1: “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) It’s all been leading up to this: just about every hero we have seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far pitted against the galaxy’s greatest threat, Thanos. The sheer scale of this film is almost incomprehensible, with the likes of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy all banding together to take on a foe that wields enough power to decimate the cosmos. We’re not sure what’s more awesome, seeing all of our favorite heroes together in one place or seeing how Thanos is going to prove himself as the biggest and baddest villain in the MCU.
