VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
They're the pea-brained, bone-headed dimwits that keep us in stitches: whether they're trying to solve a golf course's gopher problem, chasing a woman they barely know across the country, embarking on some excellent adventures or trying to get through school to take over their father's company, these movie characters are sure doing it in the most stupid way possible. But we can't help but love them anyway. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com counts down our picks for the top 10 movie idiots. Special thanks to our user offbeat08 for submitting the idea on our Suggestions Page!

#10 – Alan Garner: “The Hangover” (2009)

Also in:

Top 10 Biggest Horror Movie Idiots

This bearded fatso has trouble making friends. We’ve never really wondered why. His insane behavior has gotten him banned from more than one place, he sings randomly, and he’s drugged himself and the rest of the Wolfpack not once but TWICE just to make sure they had a good night. Whether Alan’s problem is a lack of social skills or something more, we’re still not sure.

#9 – Frank Drebin: “The Naked Gun” series (1988-94)

Also in:

Top 10 Movie Continuations of TV Series

Wearing his badge proudly, this veteran cop bungles his way through life, sometimes stopping to solve cases and get the girl. Clumsy and clueless, he’s apt to misread situations and get himself in compromising positions while trying to save the day, but he always stays blissfully unaware of his surroundings. Some advice: if ever you find yourself wearing a wireless mic, do not go to the bathroom.

#8 – Derek Zoolander: “Zoolander” (2001)

He is just a pretty face. And that face is called Blue Steel. But otherwise, this really really, ridiculously good-looking male supermodel doesn’t have much going for him: he’s bad with computers, he can’t pronounce eulogy, he’s easily brainwashed, he hangs with guys who get into gasoline fights, and he can’t turn left. But he does redeem himself by opening the Derek Zoolander Center for… oh, he’ll tell you.

#7 – Clark Griswold: “National Lampoon’s Vacation” (1983)

Does he make bad choices or does he just have bad luck? Obsessed with taking his troops on the vacation of a lifetime, Sparky does whatever it takes to overcome adversity. But seeing as how he can’t really drive, he flirts in front of his wife, he kills the family dog, and he pulls guns on security guards, well, we can’t help but think he’s an idiot.

#6 – Billy Madison: “Billy Madison” (1995)

Also in:

Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian to Return in Star Wars: Episode IX – The CineFiles Ep.80

We blame trust fund syndrome: Billy’s an entitled rich boy who spends his time playing juvenile pranks, reading dirty magazines, and chilling, boozing and hallucinating by the pool with his equally idiotic pals. But the baby-talking frat-boy act won’t fly when he takes over his dad’s company – all that’s standing in his way are grades K-through-12. Which you’d think would be simple for a 28-year-old…

#5 – Brick Tamland: “Anchorman” (2004)

With a well-below-average IQ, a wide smile, and a heart of gold, KVWN chief meteorologist Brick Tamland is the innocent member of the group, who’s always ready with unsolicited and inaccurate facts. Fortunately his buddies correct him when he makes mistakes, and provide much-needed advice when things get too wild. Come to think of it, the rest of the Channel 4 news team ain’t too bright either…

#4 – Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan: “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (1989)

Also in:

Top 10 Best Bill and Ted Movie Moments

Bill and Ted are slackers, metalheads and two-halves of the bodacious Wyld Stallyns. What they are not is history buffs. Unfortunately, it’s up to these idiots to pass their history exam and save the future. To do it, they have to travel through time to meet with some of the greatest thinkers ever. They may be dumb, but they sure know how to party in a most excellent way.

#3 – Navin R. Johnson: “The Jerk” (1979)

Also in:

Top 10 Funniest Movie Quotes of the 1970s

Clue #1 Navin is slow: he’s surprised he’s adopted. Clue #2: he’s this excited about seeing his name in the phonebook. Clue #3: he doesn’t know he’s being shot at. We think we’ve made our case. This hapless idiot goes on your standard rags-to-riches then back-to-rags journey, and comes out the other side a little wiser. Okay, not wiser, but at least he can dance.

#2 – Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne: “Dumb and Dumber” (1994)

Also in:

Top 10 Dumb Blondes in Movies and TV

With that title, we know we shouldn’t be surprised, but they’re just so stupid. Yeah, they’re nice and friendly enough, but their combined IQ is less-than-average. Aside from the haircuts, dog-shaped van and majorly stupid gesture of following a woman they don’t even know on a roadtrip across the country, there are tons of other, littler stupid gestures that solidify their spot on this list.

#1 – Carl Spackler: “Caddyshack” (1980)

Filthy, foul and fanatical, Carl’s the last guy you’d expect to see as assistant greenskeeper at a schmancy country club. But he is, and he spends his time ogling lady golfers, ridding the pool of doodie-shaped candy bars and attempting to solve the course’s gopher problem. However, he’s an idiot, which means he goes way overboard – we’re talkin’ hoses, rifles, explosives, and the gopher still bests this cross-eyed mumbler. Do you agree with our list?
