VOICE OVER: Samantha Clinch WRITTEN BY: Catherine Neal
Even for teen movies, these moments were over-the-top. For this list, we'll be looking at the craziest and most exaggerated scenes from our favorite films aimed at younger audiences. Our countdown includes "She's the Man," "Grease," "Easy A," and more!

#10: The Cat Fight in the Bathroom “She’s the Man” (2006)

There are plenty of moments in this soccer-themed Shakespeare update that could be described as over the top. The weight room seduction sequence, fake Sebastian’s breakup scene and the way Viola and Sebastian reveal their true identities are all zany. While all these moments fit it into the quirky nature of the comedy, there was one fight we could’ve done without. There was a point where a bathroom became a battle royale. After Sebastian’s ex-girlfriend Monique gets jealous of his love interest Olivia, they clash. Viola soon jumps in to team up against the ex. While starting a brawl could have made sense for Viola, the violent behavior doesn’t fit for Olivia. The fight also doesn’t advance the story enough to be worth it.

#9: The Final Carnival Scene “Grease” (1978)

While everyone seems to sing and dance at a moment’s notice in “Grease,” the movie’s still supposed to take place in a version of the real world. But the realism seems to go out the window for the final carnival scene. Although Sandy was ‘too pure to be pink”, she completely changes her wardrobe into something that even the other Pink Ladies don’t wear. Her sudden change is followed by a truly baffling ending. After the final dance number, Sandy and Danny take to the skies in a flying car. Since the movie takes place in the 50s and not the far future, this scene comes out of nowhere. We don’t think Danny is good enough with cars to make one fly.

#8: John Tucker’s Hormones “John Tucker Must Die” (2006)

Also in:

Top 10 John Wick Killstreaks

We definitely think John Tucker deserved some payback after dating multiple women at once and lying about it. However, we’re not sure that any movie character had this over the top scene coming. There’s a sequence where the girls conspire to spike Tucker protein shake with estrogen. After consuming the mixture, he starts craving chocolate and worrying about his weight. Tucker also gets extremely emotional and expressive about his feelings. The scene sails right past comedy by cramming way too many gendered stereotypes into one package. While Tucker’s ultimate emotional breakdown is supposed to be hilarious, it just seems more mean spirited.

#7: Knock on Wood “Easy A” (2010)

How Knock At The Cabin Leaves Out The REAL Horrific Ending

While we love “Easy A”, there are portions of the plot that stretch credibility to the breaking point. It’s hard to believe anyone thought Olive and her friend Brandon hooked up when they were so bad at faking it. However, it was the lead character’s “Knock On Wood” performance at a pep rally that really took things a step too far. She emerges from a pile of logs in an extremely risque outfit. Throughout the innuendo laden song, she strips the school’s mascot half-naked, dances seductively and promotes her webcast. Although the principal expresses his disapproval at the end, wouldn’t at least one other teacher have tried to stop this beforehand? Surely they would’ve at least turned the microphone off?

#6: Serenading Kat “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999)

It wouldn’t take much for Patrick Verona to win us over. However, Kat Stratford was a tougher nut to crack. In an attempt to get her on side, Patrick is persuaded to sacrifice himself on the altar of dignity. He decides the best way to win her favor is to sing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” on a microphone with the help of a band. Eventually, Patrick is forced to run away from security while doing the serenade. As much as we adore this scene, it would realistically take a ton of organization to pull off. And would the laidback Patrick really plan something elaborate like this? The scene is almost as believable as Kat’s highly unorthodox way of distracting an adult. (x-ref)

#5: “Bet On It” “High School Musical 2” (2007)

Top 10 Unforgettable High School Musical Moments

It’s a tribute to Zac Efron’s professionalism that he ever managed to perform the “Bet On it” sequence with a straight face. Don’t get us wrong, we are so glad he did. Even if only for the memes. Since Troy didn’t have basketballs in this solo, Efron had to make the number more dynamic on his own. This led to him busting all kinds of ridiculous moves across a huge lawn. While it’s all supposed to be dramatic, a lot of his movement has the same energy of little kids acting out full musicals by themselves. The moment where his reflection in the water dramatically sings to him is the cherry on top of this ridiculous cake.

#4: The ‘Diner Girl’ Reveal “A Cinderella Story” (2004)

Top 10 Movie Moments Where the Queen Bee Gets What She Deserves

Waiting for Austin Ames is like waiting for rain in a drought. But the biggest turn off about this love interest is the way he sat through a weird frog play and took it all so seriously. Towards the end of “A Cinderella Story”, the popular kids perform a thinly veiled amphibian fable. It’s designed with no other purpose than to mock “diner girl” Sam Montgomery. For some reason, the teachers seem to see no problem with this. Even if the adults don’t know who’s being made fun of, they could probably piece together that someone is being publicly tormented. And why would so many students team up to make this happen? Overall, what kind of school would allow such a messed up sketch?

#3: “The Girls Have Gone Wild” “Mean Girls” (2004)

Top 10 Shocking Teen Movie Moments

While “Mean Girls” is set in the real world, Cady occasionally daydreams that heightened scenarios are happening. But there were still a couple scenes we couldn’t believe really happened in the universe. We seriously doubted the whole school would’ve joined in to sing along to help the girls finish the “Jingle Bell Rock” number. While that stretched belief, the big brawl really made us question everything. After Regina releases the scandalous pages of her infamous burn book, practically everyone in the junior class goes feral and attacks each other. It’s unclear why some of the girls are even fighting each other at all. Thankfully, a quick and probably very illegal fire alarm activation is all it takes to bring the brawl to an end.

#2: The Catfish Kiss “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” (2018)

Also in:

Top 10 Teen Movie Couples Who Definitely Broke Up

While we want to root for Sierra Burgess, it was hard when they made her into a complete catfish. This is a girl who literally stole kisses from a guy without his consent. In a pivotal scene, Sierra hides under a car while her trusty accomplice Veronica prepares Noah Centineo’s Jamey for a kiss. After he closes his eyes, the girls switch. That’s when Sierra hits him with a big kiss. While this scene is briefly viewed as a triumphant moment, the duo should’ve realized how dodgy this all was. It’s played so earnestly that it makes us feel like it was 100 percent intended to be romantic. If reality didn’t come crashing down later for Sierra, we’d definitely call out this eyebrow-raising scene more. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: Peter Dyer’s Snogging Sessions, “Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging” (2008) This Self-Styled Snogging Tutor is Way Too Much Krumping, “Bring it On: All Or Nothing” (2006) The Actors Take This Cringey Dance Off Way Too Seriously Shoe Fight With Tyra, “Hannah Montana: The Movie” (2009) Tyra Turns a Brief Cameo Into a Masterclass in Overacting The Pie Scene, “American Pie” (1999) It’s An Iconic Movie Moment That’s Still Pretty Gross When You Think About It The Sick Scene, “Pitch Perfect” (2012) This Bizarre Detour Probably Made Some Moviegoers Sick Too

#1: Edward Tries to Expose His Vampiric Existence “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” (2009)

Top 10 Reasons Edward Cullen is the WORST

Teenage emotions can be intense. But since Edward Cullen has technically been seventeen for almost a century, that excuse is well past its sell by date. After he becomes convinced that Bella is dead, the veggie vampire decides that he can’t possibly live without her. Edward eventually dashes off to Italy to try to end his long existence. The only way for him to succeed is for him to reveal himself to the world on a sunny day. Ultimately, Bella has to race to cover him up before he sparkles in the sunlight. The slow motion, shirtless Pattinson and dramatic shots made the serious scene laughable. Fortunately, it wasn’t a stake to the heart of the successful franchise.
