VOICE OVER: Emily Brayton WRITTEN BY: Eliza Baynes
It's impossible not to want to dance when you put on a Shakira music video! Her belly dancing moves just make you want to move. In this countdown we've chosen our Top 10 favorite Shakira Music Videos! We've included videos such as Objection, Waka Waka, Don't Bother, Empire, Underneath Your Clothes, Beautiful Liar featuring Beyonce, and more!

#10: “Objection (Tango)” (2002)

First, we dance! Kicking off with a passionate tango that shows Shakira’s partner coaxing her in before quite literally tossing her aside, this video depicts one heck of a revenge fantasy. After following her man and catching him with another woman, she imagines sweet cartoon vengeance, complete with a bar fight and deflating silicone implants. Vanquishing the couple isn’t so easy in real life, but with a little help from her superhero friends, she ties them up in her trunk and uses them as spinning props while she rocks out with her band. You know what they say, if you can’t beat ‘em, use ‘em to accessorize your set!

#9: “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” (2010)

Interview with Waka Flocka Flame

This is probably Shakira’s favorite video, and it’s easy to see why. It was during this shoot that she met her handsome partner, Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué, with whom she now has two children. As the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the video features Piqué and other players from all over the globe, as well as children, dancers, and South African band Freshlyground. Shakira did another World Cup song in 2014, but it’s tough to beat anything this colorful, happy, and energetic, especially when it’s got over a billion views on YouTube! Plus, we know you know the dance from that catchy chorus! Don’t even try to deny it.

#8: “Don’t Bother” (2005)

Men, you’ve been warned: if you’re going to dump Shakira for another woman, make sure to hide your car keys first. Although you won’t see her cry, she may channel her pain into property damage. Looking appropriately rock-and-roll in a sheer nightgown, messy hair and black boots, she writhes menacingly over her sleeping boyfriend, then takes his ride to a dark, smoky junkyard. There, she sings and plays a pink guitar in the glare of bright headlights before crushing his car in a compactor, which he feels vicariously in his body. None of her trademarked dancing here, as it’s a moody change from her more upbeat videos that proves she’s more than just a pair of hips.

#7: “Empire” (2014)

Easily the prettiest video on our list, it’s filled with beautifully photographed images that are by turns soft and striking. It starts with Shakira looking ballerina-like in a bun and tulle skirt before becoming a runaway bride with a flaming veil. You know he’s not “The One” when your headpiece spontaneously combusts at the wedding! After strolling through a picturesque open field surrounded by points of sparkling light, she gets dramatic wearing a flowy black dress in an empty, candlelit church. The imagery and lyrics combined seem to suggest contrast between a stifling relationship one needs to escape, and a passionate one powerful enough to open up the golden, swirling heavens above.

#6: “Can’t Remember To Forget You” feat. Rihanna (2014)

Top 10 Rihanna Music Videos

In this duet between Rihanna and Shakira, director Joseph Kahn give us a glimpse at the glamorous life. Set in a tropical mansion, it features a solo slumber party at the base of an ornate staircase, a dip in a gleaming hot tub, and a booty-shaking contest with RiRi against some pretty fancy-looking walls. The ladies show off their pert posteriors again while lounging poolside, dressed in matching black swimsuits and bedecked in gold jewelry. And our favorite part of this video? When they smoke giant cigars like absolute bosses. Obviously smoking is bad, but it’s their badass attitudes and Rihanna’s sexy wink that make them look so good while doing it.

#5: “Underneath Your Clothes” (2002)

This video is a tiny time capsule to the early days of Shakira’s crossover into the English market, as it begins with a reporter asking her about it and her answering him teasingly in Spanish. It’s also a reminder of a time when exposed midriffs were all the rage! Alternating between color and black-and-white, it portrays the singer’s loneliness when she’s touring and missing her significant other. Footage of her and her band on a tour bus, backstage, and performing confidently onstage is interspersed with more tender scenes of her and a man embracing. The man was her actual boyfriend at the time, giving the clip added realism and poignancy.

#4: “Beautiful Liar” with Beyoncé (2007)

Shakira’s videos are always hot, but this one gets an extra dose of spice from Beyoncé. While each artist is smokin’ on her own, together they become exponentially hotter, with hips and hair flying all over the place. Singing a duet about a two-timing lover, the ladies pose, shake, and gyrate their way through various backdrops, including billowing curtains and a bamboo-like forest. But honestly, who’s looking at the background?!? During the climactic dance number, the beautiful singers are nearly mirror images, and thanks to some clever editing, they almost seem to morph into each other. Now, we’re not saying that the guy wasn’t a jerk, but how could he possibly have chosen between Shakira and Queen Bey?

#3: “She Wolf” (2009)

It’s time to let your inner beasts out, Shakira-style. Prompted by a full moon that turns her normally brown eyes gray, the sexy songstress dons an epic cut-out half-unitard and shows us everything that her toned tummy is capable of. Then she gets acrobatic in a giant cage, sporting a voluminous blowout, a nude bodysuit and some seriously blinged-out stilettos. Now we’ve always known that Shakira could move, but her flexibility in this is out of control. Just look at this . And this. And this insanity. It’s possible that the only supernatural creature in this video is its star!

#2: “Hips Don’t Lie” feat. Wyclef Jean (2006)

It goes without saying that the stars of this video are Shakira’s hips, but her undulating stomach and agile ribcage also take center stage. Dancing under a spotlight in a jet-black room, her bare back is adorned with glittering decals that emphasize the beauty and grace of her movements. It’s a simple yet dramatic setting that makes her look like a work of art. She spends the rest of the video shimmying in orange while Wyclef plays guitar, joining a lively carnival featuring colorful costumes from her hometown of Barranquilla, and leading a group of dancers in swirling white skirts. We never really knew that anyone could dance like this and make it look so effortless. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. “The One” (2002) “Rabiosa” feat. Pitbull (2011) “Loca” feat. Dizzee Rascal (2010)

#1: “Whenever, Wherever” (2001)

With a talent for songwriting, singing, and dancing, Shakira is a force of nature. So what could be more fitting than an video set against natural surroundings? Rising from the depths of the ocean like some kind of primordial goddess, she belly dances barefoot in front of crashing waves, in the middle of the desert, among a stampede of wild horses, and in front of a colorful sunset. Then she gets earthy – literally – before free-falling back into the water from a snowy mountaintop. It’s a midriff-baring, hip-shaking, mud-crawling extravaganza. We know it’s mostly just a green screen, but who cares? It’s still joyful, exhilarating, and classic Shakira. Lucky us!
