Top 20 Times Anime Characters Went Beast Mode

Welcome to WatchMojo and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the top 10 times “One Piece” characters went beast mode. For this list, we’ll be looking at occasions when characters in “One Piece” display extreme effort, perform incredible acts, or are just straight up savage! Naturally, since some moments are plot important, there will be spoilers ahead. If there's a moment a “One Piece” character did something with a “DON!” that we “don’t” have on our list, let us know in the comments!

#10: Luffy’s First Gear Second

Ranking All Of Luffy's Major Fights in One Piece

Monkey D. Luffy can often seem like he doesn’t take anything seriously, but he’s always serious in a fight. When facing government assassin Blueno atop a roof, Luffy proves evenly matched with the CP9 agent. However, Luffy decides to take things a step further by activating his new form - Gear Second. By using his rubber body to pump his blood faster, Luffy increases his speed immensely and makes his body release steam. He proceeds to relentlessly pummel Blueno with attacks so fast the horn-haired secret agent can’t even see them! It’s a good thing Blueno went down after “seconds,” or Luffy might have served him “thirds.”

#9: Usopp Fights Luffy

Everyone knows that Usopp is weaker than Luffy. Even so, Usopp challenges his captain after the decision to leave their ship, the Going Merry, behind. Usopp may not be strong, but he still goes all out in this fight. His clever use of traps, projectiles, and gadgets are enough to keep Luffy at bay for a surprisingly long time. Usopp holds nothing back, using every trick up his sleeve, from lies and misdirection, to explosions and reversals of Luffy’s own attacks! In the end, it only takes one punch for Luffy to knock Usopp out, but we still respect Usopp’s incredible effort. When the fight isn’t making us cry, that is.

#8: Luffy Takes on Enies Lobby

Top 10 Biggest Victories Of Luffy

When the Straw Hats arrive at the government island Enies Lobby to save Robin, Luffy doesn’t have time to wait for his friends - he wants to save her now! So, he launches himself over the gate and starts kicking ass immediately! While some of his moves are suitably ridiculous, Luffy also plows through waves of Marines and government agents with flurries of fists, demolishing buildings, and generally causing havoc among the thousands of soldiers stationed there. All total, Luffy takes out half of the soldiers the Straw Hats defeat at Enies Lobby by himself! Awesome.

#7: Carrot Goes Sulong

With the Straw Hats pursued by a fleet of the Big Mom Pirates’ ships, their ally Carrot proves to have more to her than just being an adorable bunny girl. The Mink girl stares at the moon and transforms into a long-haired, more powerful form called Sulong. Going literal beast mode, Carrot speeds across to the fleet following them and tears through many of the pirates aboard. After that “shocking” display, the beautiful werebunny decides to halt their pursuers by ripping out all their helms, making their ships uncontrollable. Sulong may not last “so long,” but Carrot certainly left an impact with this moonlit demonstration of power.

#6: Zoro Fights 100 Bounty Hunters

Top 30 Best Zoro Fights in One Piece

Upon arriving at their first island in the Grand Line, the Straw Hats are greeted warmly by the inhabitants of Whiskey Peak. After most of the crew is asleep, the townspeople reveal that they’re bounty hunters. Thankfully, Zoro stayed awake and is familiar with their organization, Baroque Works, having been recruited by them. With no help but his new swords, Zoro cuts and beats his way through dozens of the bounty hunters. He lays traps, uses the environment to his advantage, and when all else fails, he simply overpowers them. Zoro is always beastly, no matter what he does, but this sequence firmly establishes that fact.

#5: Luffy vs. Don Krieg

The odds seem stacked against Luffy when he fights Don Krieg, one of East Blue’s strongest pirates. However, despite Krieg having guns, nets, flamethrowers, and everything but the kitchen sink in his battle suit, Luffy outmatches him in guts! He’s willing to punch spikes to land a hit on Krieg! He takes hits from Krieg’s explosive spear, just to break its tip! Luffy never hesitates and never gives up, even when it seems like he’s beaten. That may be par for the course with the future Pirate King, but his incredible resolve during this fight is memorable nonetheless.

#4: Chopper’s Monster Point

The Straw Hats’ reindeer doctor is generally adorable and reliable. However, when he’s faced with the assassin Kumadori, Chopper is driven into a corner. While eating a special medicine allows him to transform into various forms, or “points,” taking too many turns Chopper into what everyone always feared him to be - a monster. This then-uncontrollable Monster Point is absolutely terrifying. In this form, Chopper relentlessly beats Kumadori to a pulp! While he unfortunately attacks Franky too, seeing Monster Chopper completely dominate his opponent here is incredible!

#3: Luffy’s Rage Against Kaido

Luffy always sticks up for his friends, but after Kaido seemingly kills them by destroying the castle they’re in, Luffy’s anger knows no bounds! Leaping into action, he quickly gets above the massive, drunken dragon and gives him an epic sobering up! Luffy soon goes Gear Fourth and punches the callous Emperor relentlessly, unleashing some righteous wrath. While it doesn’t end up doing Kaido any damage, and Luffy gets knocked out by just one of Kaido’s blows, that doesn’t change the fact that Luffy has rarely been this furious!

#2: Whitebeard Wrecks Akainu

Killing someone’s kid is a bad move in any anime. But Admiral Akainu made the mistake of killing o one of Whitebeard’s many adoptive sons. Before the hotheaded Admiral can finish a traumatized Luffy off, the strongest man in the world appears behind him and unloads the beating of a lifetime. While Akainu retaliates with some powerful hits of his own, Whitebeard tanks them all and hits his son’s killer so hard it breaks Marine Headquarters and sends Akainu tumbling into a chasm! Whitebeard’s quiet fury backed by those mighty blows make this a positively savage moment from the legendary pirate.

#1: Luffy Defeats Rob Lucci

Luffy’s battle with CP9 ace Rob Lucci is titanic from top to bottom. But its conclusion still blows us away! Despite being exhausted, coughing up blood, and taking powerful attacks from Lucci, Luffy refuses to fall. Summoning up everything he has and recalling all the events that led him and his friends here, Luffy unleashes a flurry of punches with Jet Gatling so quickly his arms disappear; roaring with effort as he sends Lucci crashing through the building! The monumental will and determination behind this finisher still leaves us speechless!
