VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Felicia Tarantino
We would totally rock these Rachel Green looks today! For this list, we'll be looking at the most iconic fashion moments from this sitcom character that have withstood the test of time. Our countdown includes houndstooth dress, white skirt suit, oversized coat, and more!

#20: Houndstooth Dress “The One with the Thumb”

The mid-‘90s were an iconic era for fashion, and the early days of this sitcom are no exception. Some of Rachel’s best looks come from this time period, including this gorgeous but simple one. In the episode, Monica is dating a new guy named Alan who she’s nervous to bring around the group based on their less-than-enthusiastic reactions to her previous flames. When she finally introduces her new beau to her friends, Rachel is dressed in a black and white houndstooth dress, and she’s slaying in it. It’s an enduring fashion staple that certainly makes an impression, even all these years later.

#19: Monochromatic Layered Look "The Last One"

The “Friends” finale marked a pivotal moment for the series, with over 52.5 million viewers tuning in to say goodbye to the gang in the US. The two-part episode is full of big moments and amazing fashion. Indeed, we see Rachel dressed in this outfit, which has essentially become synonymous with her character. From struggling in her mid-twenties to becoming a fashion professional in her mid-thirties, Rachel endures major character development over the ten seasons. Her style grows with her character, as evidenced by this gorgeous layered monochromatic look. Not only is this outfit super chic, but it’s also accessible – and we’ll be replicating it for sure.

#18: “Tease” Button Up “The One with Ross' New Girlfriend”

Even when she’s reeling from the fact that Ross unexpectedly came back from his trip to China with a new girlfriend on his arm, Rachel manages to look cute. We love this trucker style button up, which somehow still looks fresh even in an episode that aired over a quarter century ago. Where there would traditionally be a nametag, the word “tease” is emblazoned, which today could be read as a cheeky feminist message. Even the zebra print bandaid on her forehead almost looks like a fashion statement! Talk about an unforgettable outfit.

#17: Black Strapless Dress "The One with Monica's Thunder"

We hate to focus on this particular outfit Rachel wears, given that the episode it’s in is all about her stealing Monica’s thunder. But we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to shine the spotlight on such a beautiful number. After Chandler and Monica get engaged, the group decides to head to the Plaza. But the night comes to a halt before they even leave, as Monica comes upon Ross and Rachel kissing. The real star of the evening, however, is Rachel’s dress – a strapless black number with a slit up the side. It’s a chic choice for a celebratory outing, and her shoulder bag is the perfect simple accessory.

#16: White Skirt Suit "The One with the Race Car Bed"

Chandler might act a bit childish in this season three episode about a race car bed. But Rachel shows off her maturity with this look. After leaving her fiancé in season one, she makes pretty significant strides in her life including getting a job and finally dating Ross. Another big step on her list is going out to dinner with him and her father. One thing Rachel knows how to do is dress for an occasion, and this is certainly no exception. The matching white set, a blazer jacket and skirt with a turtleneck, is classic while remaining fresh and stylish. It’s a nod to her former life as a member of society’s elite, while also feeling metropolitan.

#15: Yellow Embroidered Dress "The One with All the Kissing”

In the earlier seasons, we normally see Rachel in pretty casual outfits while she’s hanging out at the apartment or working at Central Perk. But every now and then she gets dressed up, like in this season five episode when she’s out on a date. She wears a strapless yellow dress with gorgeous floral embroidery, which is totally back on trend nowadays. In this episode, Rachel hires Monica to make all her life decisions for her, and we can’t help but wonder which one of the ladies picked out this lovely dress!

#14: Pleated Skirt & Tall Boots “The One with Princess Consuela”

While in the first five seasons of the show Rachel’s style may have been defined by her fun, casual pieces, the later seasons saw her step up her game as her career in the fashion industry got more serious. When Rachel announces to the gang that she has been offered a job in Paris, their jaws drop, but ours already had when we saw this incredible outfit. She’s wearing a pleated mini skirt with a sleek black turtleneck tucked in, and tall black leather boots with a stiletto heel to finish the outfit off. It’s no surprise that she was offered a job in the most fashionable city in the world!

#13: Denim Shorteralls “The One with the Breast Milk”

Airing in 1995, season two of the show perfectly epitomizes the fashion of the decade. Rachel wears a LOT of denim in this season, and one of our favorite outfits has to be these adorable light wash shorteralls. Considering the ‘90s are officially back in style, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a piece like this in some of the most trendy casual-wear stores. Over the black and white striped tank top, it looks like a perfect summer outfit for wandering around the village and thinking about comfort more than style - while still looking casually incredible of course.

#12: Baby Tee & Plaid Pants "The One with the Metaphorical Tunnel"

The baby tee is back, baby! This tiny t-shirt was once a staple, so it’s no surprise that Rachel rocked it back in the day. Here, she pairs one with a fantastic pair of green plaid pants, as she and Monica provide Chandler relationship advice. Despite the season three episode airing in 1996, her outfit looks like it comes straight out of an ad from one of our favorite shops. When trying to emulate fashion from the late ‘90s, this is an effortlessly cool option for anyone who isn’t too keen to replicate some of Rachel’s more adventurous ensembles.

#11: Mauve Floral Dress “The One with Rachel's Phone Number”

After Rachel gives birth to Emma, it’s finally time for her first big night out on the town with Phoebe. She wears a midi length floral dress that shows off her post-pregnancy figure- so much so that Ross can’t stop staring at her. Even Phoebe can’t help but comment! Clearly it was a big hit at the bar as well, considering how the rest of her night ends up going. This style, the hemline in particular, is currently back in fashion, and this is the perfect breezy dress to wear on a summer night out.

#10: Boxers & Sweatshirt "The One with the Candy Hearts"

We know Rachel has many iconic looks, but this laidback leisurewear has been severely overlooked over the years. In this Valentine’s Day episode, the friends’ love lives are front and center in different ways. Chandler has an unexpected run-in with his ex, Janice, which results in them spending the night together. As she leaves his apartment, they run into Monica, who calls Rachel to the hallway. That’s when we see Rachel in this comfy but cute ensemble. An oversized crewneck sweater paired with plaid boxer shorts and slouchy socks is the sort of outfit we always try to master on a lazy Sunday morning. But we don’t pull it off quite as well as the “Friends” fashionista.

#9: Spaghetti Strap Red Gown "The One with Joey's Award”

When Joey is nominated for a Soapie Award, he asks Rachel to accompany him to the awards show, and she pulls out all the stops in a sexy crimson hued dress. Getting to see Rachel don some formal wear for an occasion like this is a rare treat on “Friends”, and she looks elegant and stylish in this spaghetti strap gown. The bright red color is one that we don’t see her wear often as she usually sports more subdued shades, but it’s totally flattering, and a piece that we’d be happy to wear today.

#8: Black Overalls "The One with the Ick Factor" & “The One with the Birth"

The birth of Ross’s son, Ben, is major, marking the first time any of the friends have a baby. So naturally, a substantial amount of time is dedicated to building up the little one’s arrival. At the end of "The One with the Ick Factor," we get the news Carol is in labor. That’s the first time we see Rachel dressed in this striped white T-shirt and black overalls. Of course, she’s still rocking it in the following episode at the hospital. Not only is it a practical and comfortable option, but it’s super adorable and flattering as well. Of course, Rachel eventually changes into a fancier outfit to impress Carol’s doctor. But we prefer her more casual garb.

#7: Layered Button Up Dress "The One with the Stoned Guy"

Even all the way back in season one, Rachel had already nailed down her personal style. In the episode, "The One With the Stoned Guy", Rachel wears this casual outfit that really shows off her sartorial edge. The long button-down dress has a silhouette that pretty much screams ‘90s, but also feels relevant today, and the long sleeved shirt underneath adds some visual interest to the ensemble. Later in the episode, she wears a crisp white blouse underneath a black dress, and it also looks awesome. Rachel’s pro layering techniques can serve as a lesson to us even decades later.

#6: Oversized Coat “The One with the Morning After”

Is there anything more devastating than Ross and Rachel’s break up in season three? We doubt it. When the couple embarks on a highly contentious “break” due to her friendship with a work colleague, he sleeps with copy store employee Chloe. “The One with the Morning After” notably shows the dissolution of Ross and Rachel’s relationship once she discovers this, while their friends eavesdrop from an adjoining room. In the midst of our hearts breaking, we can’t help but notice the killer outfit Rachel’s been wearing most of the episode. A simple ensemble is paired with (and elevated by) a stunning olive green coat. We’d much rather remember this moment for the gorgeous look than the devastating turn of events.

#5: Gray Fitted Dress "The One with the Videotape"

It’s not exactly Ross and Rachel’ s finest moment when an attempt to tell the gang how they conceived a child together turns into a debate about who came on to who (or whom). It may be a thin silver lining, but at least Rachel, for her part, still looked pulled together and confident throughout the whole discussion thanks to her mature and sleek outfit. By season eight, Rachel’s style had evolved to be much more grown up, and this gray printed suit-dress is the perfect example of it. Though this entire episode ends up being pretty embarrassing, this outfit helps Rachel give off an air of being above it all.

#4: Black & Red Plaid Pants "The One with the Fake Monica”

In the early seasons, Rachel is all about plaid, be it skirts, dresses or frequently: pants. In this late season one episode, Monica finds out that her identity has been stolen, and seeks out the woman who is pretending to be her. Monica, Rachel and Phoebe all go to a dance class together to confront the thief, and Rachel wears this irreverent outfit. It clearly isn’t made for dancing, but the red and black printed plaid pants make a statement, and adding a graphic tee makes the look even more fun and youthful.

#3: USA Shirt & Black Shorts "The One with Phoebe's Husband"

This season two episode is all about secrets being revealed after the friends find out that Phoebe is married. What isn’t a secret to any of us, however, is that Rachel’s outfit in the first scenes is practically perfect. She dons a cozy white long-sleeve shirt with USA printed across the front, paired with black high-waisted shorts, tights, and heels. Much like many of Rachel’s best looks, this laidback uniform is effortlessly cool, making it an ideal pick for going out or staying in. Best of all, it’s timeless—we would rock it now without hesitation.

#2: Mint Green Dress "The One Where No One's Ready"

Could this outfit be anymore iconic? "The One Where No One's Ready" is one of the beloved sitcom’s most memorable episodes. It packs a mighty punch with quotable one-liners and insurmountable chaos. However, one of the standout moments is Rachel’s ensemble at the end. Ross loses his cool when Rachel and the gang take too long to get ready for a big night at the museum. In retaliation, she refuses to go to the event. But after a major apology on his part, she finally gets dressed – and the result is totally worth the wait. This floor-length mint dress is not only an unforgettable look, but also one that we’d love to recreate.

#1: Plaid Skirt & Knee Socks "The One Where the Monkey Gets Away"

When Rachel is watching Ross’s monkey, Marcel, she chooses a pretty bomb babysitting outfit. For a simple night in, she opted for a short plaid skirt (again with the plaid!), a cropped mock neck sweater and knee socks. It’s a knockout outfit, and her simple updo puts the focus squarely on her clothes. The stockings add an extra element of youthful fun to the outfit, but the entire thing is totally enviable. Considering how trends have come around again, every single item in this outfit would totally work today, and even paired all together, you’d look totally in style.
