Every Upcoming Superhero Game To Get Excited For

Announced at the 2023 Game Awards, Josef Fares’ “Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons” is getting a gorgeous looking remake on February 28th, 2024. The original game follows the two siblings on a journey to cure their dying father in a fantastical but dangerous world. It was the first video game directed by Fares, who then went on to found Hazelight Studios, crafter of the incredible co-op adventure, “It Takes Two.” Only the Switch version of “Brothers” featured multiplayer, but the remake will retain the co-op element that made Fares’ previous award-winning work so engaging. Regardless of whether you play it alone or not, this is a tale we look forward to revisiting.

“Mario vs. Donkey Kong” (2024)

After spending some time apart, Nintendo reignited Mario and Donkey Kong’s rivalry through a puzzle platformer on the Game Boy Advance. 2004’s “Mario vs. Donkey Kong” was a delight; everything from the simplest of obstacles to the most head scratching brain teasers gave you a wondrous sense of accomplishment. A remake was announced during a September 2023 Direct and will release on February 16th, 2024. The original game and its sequels were a great revitalization of the arcade gameplay that made both Mario and DK stars. So we hope this leads to a brand new game down the line. While $50 is a bit steep for this type of game, Nintendo’s level of quality is usually worth it.

Remakes have the ability to breathe new life into a dying franchise. And since “Alone in the Dark” hasn’t had a good game in quite a long time, that’s exactly what we’re hoping this release will do. Set to launch on March 20th, 2024, this new installment reimagines the 1992 original. For those unaware, it tasks players with escaping from a haunted mansion and has been credited as one of the most influential survival Horror games of all time. One of the series it influenced was “Resident Evil,” while the team behind this one was inspired by Capcom’s own remakes. If “Alone in the Dark” is even close to that level of quality, this will be something special.

“Max Payne 1 & 2” (TBA)

The caliber of Remedy Entertainment has become more recognized in recent years thanks to award winning games like “Control” and “Alan Wake II.” For their next trick, the developer is tackling the franchise that put it on the map. In April of 2022, the studio announced plans to remake the first two “Max Payne” games and bundle them together. Unfortunately, the project was very early in development when it was announced and as of writing, we’ve yet to see anything on it. Even still, those games are gritty noir at its finest, at least in video games. No matter what changes are made, we have faith that Remedy is handling it with the utmost care.

“Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” (TBA)

Ubisoft hasn’t seemed to care much about “Splinter Cell” in a while. But most fans are hoping that’ll change soon with the planned remake of the first game. Announced in 2021, it’ll be internally developed by Ubisoft Toronto, the same team behind 2013’s “Splinter Cell: Blacklist” and 2021’s “Far Cry 6.” Sadly, this is another project we’ve yet to see anything from. And the exit of creative director David Grivel in October of 2022 does seem a tad worrisome. However, when it comes to spies and espionage, there are few franchises that are as respected as much as “Splinter Cell.” Fans have been begging for something, anything, for years now. So, we hope this doesn’t disappoint.

“Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” (TBA)

While we’re not fully ready to forgive Konami for how it treated series creator Hideo Kojima, or for many other slights against the gaming community, that doesn’t mean we’re not hype as hell for this remake. We don’t think it’s too big a stretch to call “Snake Eater” one of the best “Metal Gear Solid” games. And since it chronologically takes place first, it’s the right call for a remake. It’s being built in Unreal Engine 5 and the brief footage we’ve seen so far is very enticing. Although Kojima isn’t involved, Konami has stated its intent to remain faithful to the original, which means no new story content or voice acting. But as long as it’s a better way to play an already great game, we’ll be happy.

“The Witcher Remake” (TBA)

“The Witcher” as an IP wouldn’t be nearly as big as it is today without CD Projekt Red. The third game is considered by most to be one of the greatest games of all time. When it comes to the first game, though, it definitely shows its age. So when the studio announced in October of 2022 that a full-blown remake was coming, we were some of the many who were pumped to hear it. Another remake being built in Unreal Engine 5, CD Projekt is supervising developer Fool’s Theory, who, among other games, assisted Larian Studios in making “Baldur’s Gate III.” As exciting as it all sounds, we sadly don’t have any footage or even a release window, so we’ll just have to be patient.

“Persona 3 Reload” (2024)

There is not a single “Persona” fan, new or old, who isn’t ecstatic about the upcoming remake of the third entry. We know this because Atlus themselves have stated how often they’ve been asked for one since the series grew more popular. Many of the social aspects people loved in “Persona 5” are well in-tact here. It follows a high schooler after moving back home, joining a group of other students to combat Shadows, dangerous entities that emerged from an anomaly known as the Dark Hour. The visuals already popped back on the PS2 and it obviously looks even better here. And we’re sure the gameplay hook will be as satisfying as ever. Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait since “Reload” releases on February 2nd, 2024.

“Silent Hill 2” (TBA)

Resident Evil Vs Silent Hill: Video Game Showdown

Konami has been sitting on a survival horror gold mine for far too long now, but “Silent Hill” is finally making a return. Among many other announcements for the franchise, a remake of the second installment was unveiled in October of 2022. Unlike the internal development of “Snake Eater,” Konami is handing the keys to Bloober Team, who have already proven their worth in the genre with games like “The Medium” and the “Layers of Fear” series. While “Silent Hill 2” is arguably the strongest in the franchise, it being more than 20 years old makes the Unreal Engine 5 revamp sound incredibly tempting. However, it’s also one of the greatest Horror games ever, so big shoes to fill.

“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” (2024)

The HARDEST Boss In Every Final Fantasy Game

Remember how excited you were when “Final Fantasy VII Remake” came out? Well, since that game was actually pretty great, you can double it to understand how hype we are for “Rebirth.” This is obviously a special case considering the standalone original was substantially expanded on to make it a trilogy. More weight was added to the plot, especially when it came to the relationships between its characters. The battle mechanics were also fresh and exciting while retaining turn-based elements to honor its predecessor. And everything we’ve seen of “Rebirth” looks like it’ll be even better. We can’t wait to see what else is added and what familiar elements are given new light. Come February 29th, 2024, we’ll be getting lost in this world once again.
