Some games will live forever as Classics. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be taking a look at Capcom’s 1992’s iconic adventure game “Magical Quest: Starring Mickey Mouse.”
Debuting on the SNES and Sega Genesis, this Disney-based platformer was eventually ported to the Gameboy Advance.
As the game opens, players discover that Pluto has disappeared and Mickey Mouse must set off to look for him. Following his dog pal’s tracks, Mickey comes to a magical world filled with fantastic sights and strange creatures. There, he quickly meets a kind old wizard, who tells him that the evil emperor Pete has kidnapped his friend and is holding him in his castle.
Setting off to rescue Pluto, Mickey begins a long and perilous journey across a land filled with dark magic and evil minions of the emperor.
A fun side-scrolling platformer, Magical Quest contains six levels, each containing sub levels. These include The Treetops, The Dark Forest, The Fire Grotto, The Foothills, The Mountains, and Pete's Castle.
Along your way you will pick up items such as “coins”, which raise you score, “fruit”, which can give you an extra life, and “hearts”, which replenish your life meter.
Lacking a save feature, this game must be completed in one sitting. Fortunately, there are unlimited continues, and when you run out of lives, you can pick up from beginning of your current level, or your last check point.
During your adventures, you will discover outfits that provide you with special powers. These include the magician's outfit, which will let you shoot out a magic bolt; a fireman's outfit, which lets you shoot a spray of water; and a mountain climber's outfit that will enable you to scale walls.
To keep these powers active you must fid Genie Lamps, Fire Hydrants, or grappling hooks.
With boss fights at the end of each level, players will have to fight Pete’s several dark-magic incarnations. These include the form of a Worm, a Spider, Fire, and a Goat.
Featuring a two-player turn-based gameplay option, gamers don’t have to go it alone! This means that you can experience one of the most magical quests of the 16-bit era, and best Disney-based adventures ever made with your friends when it arrives on Nintendo’s Virtual Console.
